Principal's Report 23/11/2021

Huon Channel Athletics Carnival

A few weeks ago, selected students from Grades 3,4,5 and 6 attended the Huon Channel Athletics Carnival with Ms Smithurst and Miss Blair. Despite trying weather conditions, Ms Smithurst reported that everyone tried their very best. Ms Smithurst made the following special mention of the Year 3 students.

“They modelled all of the schools values in some very challenging weather conditions. Isabelle and Eddie both chose to run the 800 metre race for fun. Competitions had ended and no times were being recorded or ribbons given out, but students were offered the opportunity to run the 800 metre race for fun while they waited for buses to arrive. Isabelle and Eddie both tried their best despite there being no rewards for their efforts.”

COVID-19 Update

The Department of Education is being as proactive as it can to protect learners, staff and the wider community as Tasmania prepares to open its borders on 15 December 2021. We have already had contractors come and check all the filters on our heat pumps and air conditioners and yesterday more contractors came to check that windows opened correctly to support sufficient ventilation in classrooms. A Draft Risk Management Plan COVID Safe Workplaces is currently being reviewed and more information will be shared as it becomes available.

Song Room Combined Schools Day and Concert

Our combined day with Geeveston Primary School is coming up on Wednesday 1st December. As a treat this week, we had a band come and perform for us this morning. The band contained Isaac and Elisse who have both been taking Song Room Sessions.

A reminder to families wishing to attend the concert on December 1st from 1:30-2:00 to please contact the office.

Artists of the Week

Mrs Bron Englert continues to work with groups of students to create interesting and clever pieces of art. This week our artists of the week produced these colourful creations by pouring paint on the paper and using tools and other products to create some great effects.

Insect Visitor

Yesterday at recess time we had a very bright green insect visitor in the school. It was extremely well camouflaged in the daffodil leaves outside Mrs Bender’s office and attracted lots of curious onlookers.

This insect is in the family Tettigoniidae and are commonly called katydids, or bush crickets.

Final Assembly

We have been to measure the Huonville Primary School hall. Based on physical distancing requirements of 1.5m for adults, there is a maximum seating capacity of 170 seats. This equates to approximately 2 tickets per family.

In the coming days each family will be provided with 2 tickets. IT WILL BE VERY IMPORTANT THAT IF YOU DO NOT WISH TO ATTEND THE ASSEMBLY, TICKETS ARE RETURNED TO THE OFFICE AS SOON AS POSSIBLE SO THAT THEY CAN THEN BE GIVEN TO SOMEONE ELSE. A waiting list for additional tickets will be created. If your family require additional tickets, please contact the office and as spare tickets come in, these will be allocated on a first in basis.

Whilst we appreciate that this is not ideal, as many more people have been able to attend final assemblies in the past, it is essential that we do everything we can to keep people safe and to ensure that COVID-19 regulations are being met.

We thank you for your support and understanding with this.
