Grade 1/2 Report
Back in week one, some of the students discovered something very interesting looking in the bush playground. This has been the basis of our inquiry work in Science so far this term.
We brought it inside and had a closer look. Then we wrote about and did drawings of what we could see, thought and wondered about this strange looking thing. Most of the children thought it was some kind of cocoon. Next, we made scientific diagrams with labels to show what we thought had come out of the cocoon.
Then we used these drawings to help us make models of the creatures.
Finally we did some research together and discovered our cocoon had been home to a Rain Moth. We learned that Rain Moths can predict when heavy rainfall will happen. Males can grow to have a wingspan of up to 16cm and females 23cm!
