Japanese Excursion
Earlier this week Grades 4, 5 and 6 had the opportunity to visit the Bujinkan Tasmania Dojo as part of their Japanese studies. We were able to experience Japanese culture in a very unique way by participating in a traditional tea ceremony, observing cultural dance, watching our host dress their classmates in two different style of kimono and watching very engaging demonstrations of Japanese martial arts and self-defence. Principles of respect and obedience are very important when entering the Dojo. Our shoes were left at the door and as we came onto the floor mats inside, we gave a bow to show that we were ready to engage respectfully in that space. Our host pointed out that when we listen more we get to experience more. Some of our highlights included learning to pass a Samurai sword safely around a circle, being taught to walk stealthy - like a ninja and seeing all of the artifacts and antiques in the Dojo. We certainly had a wonderful experience and made many connections to our studies back in the classroom. Thank you Mr. Ryan for organising this day for us.
