Grade 1/2 News
This year in 1/2 we’ve started off with a strong, systematic approach to phonics.
So far we’ve learnt about the letters and sounds that s,a,t,p,i,n,m,d,g,o,c and k represent.
Each time we learn about a new letter and sound we unlock it on our sound wall. Then we add a photo to remind us what happens with our mouth when we make the sound and add a few words that have the sound in them – the students are choosing the words which is making for a VERY interesting wall.
Learning about letters and sounds is laying the foundations for some of us to learn how to read and for some of us to improve our reading skills. It’s also helping us to develop our spelling knowledge which will help us with our writing.
