Maths Relay
Grades 4/5 and 5/6 combined forces to participate in a Halloween maths relay this week with 10 mixed teams competing for the win. They answered a variety of questions. Some about the area of a pumpkin patch, how far a bat could travel at a given speed and time, riddles about ghosts hiding in a house, sweets shared amongst friends, meters of bandage needed to wrap a mummy and the date a skeleton’s broken bones would be healed if it took seven weeks to heal from a specific date. Each time the team worked out their answer, a runner had to navigate through fitness obstacles to their teachers at the other end of the oval to get the next question or be told to try again if their answer was wrong. It was fast paced, very high energy and fun for all involved.
Maya, Grade 5/6 - “I enjoyed working as a group to work out the answers.”
Finn, Grade 4/5 - “I don’t really like maths but I loved being the one to do the obstacles.”
Pippa, Grade 4/5 - “My favourite part was working out the problems.”
Hugh, Grade 4/5 – “It was a lot of fun. We had a few goes on one of the questions but it felt great to get it right in the end.”
