Marimba Mania
On Friday 3rd November, 17 students joined 12 other schools at the Kingston Hub for this year's Marimba Mania. All the students were well prepared and knew their parts well. On the day we had to bring the 8 marimbas, music stands, folders, mallets with us under the bus. With the rain pouring down, this made this somewhat difficult, however, all the girls were very efficient, and we managed to get everything on and off the bus and set up without a hitch.
There was a buzz in the air, all the schools setting up and getting ready, students practicing parts for the rehearsal, which is the first time as schools we would play together. Gerard Van Geer, who composed many of the pieces and is a well known musician, conducted the rehearsal. He made sure that the musical items ran smoothly, and everyone was clear on when to start and finish. The music sounded amazing and everyone was looking forward to the concert which was to be held for the public after lunch.
The students had a chance to play in the park during lunch, and were treated to a hot chocolate by our parent helper Reema Davis. Once all the parents and guests arrived the concert began. We played through 9 pieces of music, the crowd got involved many times clapping along to the music. Overall the girls performance was outstanding, I am really impressed on how they carried themselves through out the day. Thank you to all involved, it was a great success.
