I recently visited the Prep class to do some maths tasks where we were focussing on different ways to make 10.

In pairs we collected a shell and 10 counters.

Then we took it in turns with a partner to hide some of the counters under the shell while the other person had their eyes covered.

Our partner then got to uncover their eyes and used their knowledge of pairs of numbers that make 10 to work out how many had been hidden.

Finally we had a go at recoding what we had been practicing on paper.

There was some really great mathematical thinking going on.
