Today our whole school spent the morning in reflection and remembrance of our ANZAC past. An assembly was held with special guest Flight Sergeant Matthew Olsen of the Royal Australian Air Force in attendance. School leaders highlighted the significant elements in a traditional ANZAC ceremony such as flags being at half mast, the laying of wreaths, the poppies and rosemary as symbols of remembrance. Flight Sargent Olsen spoke to us about his Great Uncle and Grandfather being involved in the Gallipoli campaign of WW1 and his own involvement in Australia’s continuing peacekeeping efforts both here and around the world.

We learnt about the battle of Lone Pine and we planted our very own Lone Pine tree in the school grounds. This tree holds great significance as it is a grandchild tree of the original pines that grew on the battlefield in 1914. We were honoured to have this opportunity today and hope that our tree will become a beautiful memorial for us and our whole community.
