Principal’s Report
Firstly, we all wish Mrs McKay the very best on her period of leave.
The team of students and staff will continue to ensure great learning, investigations and discoveries occur. Together with myself and Ursula Woods, the Upper Primary staff aim to begin targeting specific Numeracy needs, using the research materials of Di Siemon. We intend to bring a similar approach to the Early Childhood classes once the older students are underway.
This week nearly 20 students will compete in the Australian Mathematics Competition, fantastic to have such an enthusiastic response.
We have also been invited by Cygnet Primary to compete in the Maths Relays on Thursday 22nd August. We can bring two teams of Grade 5 and 6’s, so there will be trials in the next few weeks to select those students with tenacity, lateral thinking and willingness to complete the obstacle course to collect their Maths questions.
Literacy continues to be a focus with Mrs Tucker joining our Literacy Coach, Heidi to bring our insights on ‘writing outcomes’ from the student free day into the classrooms.
Grade 2/3 and 1/2 are heading out on their excursion to the Marine Discovery Centre on Friday, I’m told the Gummy and Draftboard sharks are looking forward to being patted.
