Paper Folding Fractions
Take a square piece of paper (origami patterned if you have some), try to make the following folds and convince another how you know the new shape has the required area.
- Make a square from your original square that is exactly ¼ of the original square
- Make a triangle, that is exactly ¼ of the original square
- Fold another triangle that is also ¼ of the area of the square when opened (but not identical /congruent to the previous triangle)
- Make a square with exactly ½ the area of the original square
- Make another square that is ½ the area of the original square but is orientated differently to the one you just made.
How did you go, keep persisting and feel great about your achievements. I’d love to see them.
