Principal's Report 28/10/2019
Bushfire Response.
The Education Department and I have reviewed our current Bushfire Response Plan. Glen Huon Primary is a category two school which means we must take refuge offsite unless authorised by the Tasmanian Fire Service. As a category two school if the Fire Danger Rating is extreme Glen Huon would not be open. We would operate from Huonville Primary on this occasion. If the fire danger rating is severe Glen Huon will be on alert and liaising with the Department of Education and the Tasmanian Fire Service. If a fire gets underway and we are advised to evacuate Glen Huon will close and all students will be bussed to Huonville Primary for safety reasons. We have negotiated with Roberts Coaches and they have agreed to be prepared with drivers to assist on severe fire weather warning days. In the event that we did need to evacuate we will notify parents via Facebook, through our Schoolzine messaging and the Education Department will contact media outlets. Please make sure you have your e-mail registered on the website. It would also be very useful to have the Schoolzine app installed on your phone as messaging is sent directly to your phone via this app. You can access the app via the homepage of our website. If you wish to register your e-mail please complete the contact us form and provide your e-mail address.
If you would like further information about this please don’t hesitate to contact Glenys McKay Principal.
