Children's University
This term at Glen Huon Primary we are pleased to be able to offer students from 7 to 14 years of age to enrol in the Children’s University. This exciting program is the opportunity for students to develop their interests through a variety of learning experiences. Students who commit to the program can choose from a range of activities which are held outside of regular school hours and provide the opportunity for social and intellectual development.
How does it work?
Students who sign up for the program are given a passport. They then choose from a range of activities that interest them. These activities can be chosen from different groups:
Restricted Learning Destination activities; these activities can take place at lunch breaks during school hours. Normally this would include involvement in things such as choir, assisting with breakfast club etc. During our isolation time, there are a range of activities that could happen during daily breaks at home.
In normal times, participation in clubs etc outside school time would also count towards graduation. There would also be Events at the University of Tasmania during school holidays. But even under our current circumstances, there are many exciting opportunities available for you to choose from. Children’s University also provides monthly challenges and online activities.
What does this all add up to?
To graduate for the first time, students need to achieve a minimum of 30 hours. Each activity is allocated a certain time; so when you complete it, I will stamp your passport with that achievement. You can graduate more than once as you reach new milestones and you will be awarded new certificates each year.
What to do
If you are aged between 7 and 14 and are interested in this program you can:
- Go to childrensuniversity.com.au and study the information there carefully.
- Find the Children's University Australasia (Tasmania) page on Facebook and check out the sort of monthly challenges that you could do.
- Read the attached Wonder Weekly for some examples of the sort of things that can get you thinking.
I am really excited about this opportunity for GHP students – yes, as I read the information I am thinking of . . . . you and you and you!!
