Principal's Report

A bit of an introduction

This is certainly not the start to Term 3 which Mrs McKay was expecting and hoping for and I know that I am not alone in wishing her a speedy recovery.

Despite the unfortunate circumstances for Mrs McKay, I am very excited to be part of Glen Huon Primary School for the next 5 weeks. I have already been made very welcome and I can’t wait to get to know you all better.

So that you can get to know me, I thought I would share a little bit about myself.

I am married to Sam and we have a dog called Charlie. Charlie is almost 12 years old and loves to chew on things…including pine cones!

For the past 16 years Sam and I have been living in Circular Head. I was Principal at Edith Creek Primary School for 5 years, which is about 15 minutes south of Smithton, before we made the move back south at the end of 2019. Edith Creek Primary is a small school with a fantastic community, a big heart and a huge sense of belonging and care….a lot like Glen Huon Primary School from what I can see. At the start of this year, I then started as Assistant Principal at Huonville Primary School.

Very soon Sam and I are hoping to start building our new house in Huonville. We are SO excited about this. We have an amazing view with lots of space for animals and for growing fruit and vegetables…we can’t wait! We also can’t wait to become involved in and connected to the Huon community.

So there you have it, just a little bit of an introduction about me. I am sure I will learn a lot about all of you over the next few weeks too.

Construction Work is Underway!

Things have been very busy here at school over the holidays. We have a brand new fence around the top playground and work has begun on preparing for the construction of our new Kindergarten building. This means that you will notice some areas of our school fenced off to allow for the construction to occur safely whilst we continue to learn and use the other parts of our school.

It also means that we are going to need to be a little bit flexible, keep an extra eye out for each other as things change and follow any instructions or signs that are up.

But most importantly, we get to feel excited about the wonderful new learning space which is going to be created and which we are going to be able to enjoy!
