Principal's Report 25-8-2020

Dear Families

With Mrs McKay’s leg being on the mend, she is planning to return to work next week. This means that this will be my final newsletter before I finish up as Acting Principal this Friday and return to Huonville Primary School.

I would like to say a HUGE thank you to everyone for being so friendly and welcoming. I have absolutely loved my time at Glen Huon Primary School. It is such a unique little treasure nestled in the countryside (and sometimes the fog). I have enjoyed meeting each and every one of you. It has been a delight to welcome many excited faces as you returned from school holidays and each morning as you arrive at school and it has been a pleasure to work with such a wonderful team of staff.

I wish you all the very best for the remainder of the school year and hope to keep in touch and bump into people every now and then.

As a parting gift I have attached a copy of the jokes I have been sharing each day on Late Bus Duty. I hope they give you all a bit of a giggle and not too many groans.

Kindest of regards

Erika Lees

School satisfaction survey and student wellbeing survey

School Satisfaction Surveys were sent home to each family yesterday. These can be completed either online using the unique code on your letter, or by completing the paper survey and returning this to the school office. We very much appreciate families taking the time to complete these surveys as they give us important information on areas we are doing well in or have made gains in, as well as areas for improvement.

Grade 4-6 students will also be anonymously completing the Student Wellbeing Survey this week. This gives us important data on how our students feel about a range of things impacting their learning and wellbeing and allows us to identify areas where we may need to put supports in place but also to celebrate things which are going well.

Grade 5/6 Winter Sports Day

On Tuesday 1st September our Grade 5/6’s will have the opportunity to travel to the Kingborough Sports Centre to participate in the Huon and Channel Volleyball Tournament and the Winter Sports Come and Try Day. Some students will be representing the school in the Volleyball Tournament which is an annual event which is always well represented by Glen Huon students, and the remaining students will be able to experience a variety of sports that the Huon and Channel region has to offer in Ultimate Frisbee, Softball and Gymnastics. Our students are really excited for this event and will be accompanied by Mrs. Tucker and Ms van der Schans.

Please make sure your child is at school as early as possible on the day as the bus will need to leave right on 9:00am! Also ensure they have plenty of food and drink, a jumper, a hat and are dressed in their school uniform.

Kindergarten building progress

In the last week there has again been gradual progress in the construction of our new Kindergarten building. The footings have been built and filled with cement and the base and boxing is being prepared in readiness for the concrete slab to be poured a little later this week.

At times the gate into the school is being locked in order to stop traffic through the school at times when there are a lot of students around. If you need to come through the gates with your car at any time and find the gate locked, please phone the office and someone will come and let you through.
