Prep/One Report
Prep/One have been doing an Inquiry about Sound. This group of children are incredible thinkers and have been very keen to ask questions, research, pose ideas, test ideas, explore their thinking and share their thinking with one another through drawings, writings and conversation. It is an incredibly powerful way to learn!
As we started thinking about the mechanics of how our ears hear, the children suggested that we ask some experts, research in books or research online. Lucky for us, Nurse Emma was coming to school the next day and she very quickly brushed up on her knowledge of ears and hearing and faced our questions the next morning. She was impressed with how insightful the questions and comments from the children were! There were many questions and ideas about how animals can hear and how their ears work. The children were very interested in finding out whether the way animals hear is different… As luck would have it, Mrs Steenholdt was able to organise a Zoom meeting with Dr Leisha Hewitt, an internationally renowned vet, who gamely agreed to answer the many questions posed by the children. We were impressed by not only Dr Leisha’s knowledge, but her endurance as the children presented her with their questions!
This morning I asked the children if you can see sound, which provoked lively discussion and deep thinking. Here you can see some of the children representing their thinking out on the netball court. They were all able to clearly articulate their ideas and how their thinking has changed. Amazing kids!
