Movie Night at the Palais Sunday 1st November
Daigo is a young cellist in a Japanese city orchestra. His wife Mika works as a web designer. Times are hard for the orchestra and Daigo suggests to his colleagues that Mika could help establish a modern, online presence for the orchestra. Instead, the orchestra’s owner announces he’s disbanding it.
Out of work and no longer able to support himself in the big city, Daigo and Mika move back to the provincial town he left years ago to pursue his musical dreams. Responding to an Ad for a company specialising in “Departures”, Daigo sets off to become a travel agent. Puzzled by the coffins on display in the company’s foyer, it takes a while for the penny to drop.
Departures spins a light and engaging tale about a rather naïve and self-centred young man as he becomes absorbed into the traditional Japanese rituals for preparing the deceased for burial.
Film Buffoon
‘Bring a plate to share’ was a much-enjoyed tradition of Palais Movie nights before COVID. After seeking advice, we are now re-introducing this custom. We invite you to bring a plate to share this movie night. However, if you don't yet feel comfortable eating from a shared plate, we suggest you join us with your own BYO nibbles and snacks.
Hygiene and Social Distancing
We have the standard Tasmania-wide COVID-safe protocols in place, as mandated by Council: hand sanitisers, social distancing (1.5m), disinfecting and cleaning. Seating distances, queues at bar areas etc will be explained and supervised by the Palais Management Committee on the night.
For Contact Tracing Purposes
On entry to the Palais, we will record the name and contact phone number of all movie goers (one contact per individual, couple or group). Contact details will be securely stored then destroyed after 4 weeks
