Prep/One Report
Prep/One are inquiring into Celebrations. Our Big Idea is: Acknowledging and celebrating how different traditions and customs enriches and connects communities.
To tune in to our Inquiry I asked the children “What is a celebration?”
Some of the comments they made were (typed as they spoke):
Bindy: Something you celebrate is Easter
Birdie: A celebration is like a baby shower like when someone is going to have a baby, that’s a celebration.
Emily: A celebration is like when someone is turning an age that is a celebration – I am turning something today! (It was Emily’s 6th birthday!)
Sophie: A celebration is something that where you go out to somewhere to have a birthday or a party or to a restaurant with your family. Also sometimes people go out for dinners with their family and their kids and have fun with them. They take their kids to a party so the kids have fun!
Alfie: A celebration is a party and where people get together. It is also what happened today when we were planting the tree. (It was the day we planted the new Pin Oak replacing the 112 year old tree that blew down)
Esther: A celebration is more like having a beer party, fizzy parties and wine parties
Thomas: A celebration is something you like to go and you will get parties and you will go on a dinosaur trampoline and you get to have party bags and you have fun with your family. You will get something to eat at a restaurant and go on roller coasters and go around and around. You might see something scary, but you might be brave. When you go home it makes you better, it makes your mind a little bit “funner!” It will be so nice. If you hug your parents – if you be nice they might take you somewhere.
Luka: A baby shower is a time when babies shower down from the sky! Haha! It is really when someone is going to have a baby and sometimes they get things for their baby. Tom added – “It is a party for them”
