Principal's Report
Progress Reports
Teachers are currently writing progress reports for students in Prep-Grade 6. Reports will be sent home in the last week of this Term 1. These reports are intended to give families an indication of how children have settled into the new school year. Teachers may also use these reports to celebrate strengths or achievements already identified this year as well as providing an opportunity to document any concerns teachers may have. If you have any questions or concerns regarding the reports once they have been receive please make an appointment to see your child’s teacher at the beginning of Term 2.
Huon and Channel Swimming Carnival
I had the absolute pleasure of accompanying our team of Grade 3-6 swimmers to the Huon and Channel Swimming Carnival yesterday. What a fantastic and encouraging group of young people! Everyone was supporting and cheering each other on and they certainly represented our school very well. Thank you also to our helpers who assisted with marshalling, getting students organised and on the finishing line.
NAPLAN 2021
NAPLAN testing for Grade 3 and 5 students will this year be going ahead again and with the exception of the Grade 3 writing test, will be conducted online. More information will be coming to families of students in these grades soon. This term students will have an opportunity to engage in an online practice platform which will familiarise them with the format of the testing and the style of questions. NAPLAN testing will then take place over a number of days beginning on May 11th. If families have any questions or concerns about this please come and see either myself or your child’s teacher. More information can also be found on the NAPLAN Online website https://www.nap.edu.au/online-assessment
Glen Huon Playground Survey
Today Lisa from the Huon Valley Council came to our morning assembly to talk to everyone about the plans for renewing the Glen Huon Playground. This playground has a long history within our community and so the council are very keen to have input from students and families regarding what this playground might look like for the next generation. There are posters of suggested equipment on display in the Multipurpose Room Windows. Each student has been given a survey to either complete at school or to take home. If you would like an additional survey to complete as a family, more are available from the office. Please return any surveys to the box just outside the staffroom which has been provided by the council by next Monday 22nd March.
Breakfast Club
Our wonderful Parents and Friends are helping cook breakfast club each morning.
Whilst we can’t accept home made jams due to COVID, if you would like to donate jars of store-bought jam, Vegemite or honey, this would be greatly appreciated.
Sharing Assemblies
We have had a very busy start to the school year and also quite a number of public holidays on Mondays and so we will be holding our first sharing assembly this coming Monday 22nd March at 2:00pm
We ask that any parents wishing to attend the assembly please contact the school by Friday 19th March so that we can ensure we have enough spaced seating set out. Please ensure you arrive early enough to allow time to sign in at the office. A hand sanitiser station will also be set up at the entry to the Multipurpose Room.
