Principal's Report 27/04/2021
Welcome back to Term 2. As the cooler weather sets in, it is a good time to check that all school jumpers are named so that we can return them to their owners if found.
Holiday School Make-Over
Over the holidays our school was a very busy place indeed. Four of our classrooms were freshly painted and had the carpet and vinyl replaced. Miss Munro’s classroom had a new sink installed and all four classrooms plus the Prep room, Library and foyer had new LED lighting installed. This was funded by the COVID stimulus works and the classrooms look fantastic!
Works also began on the new Kindergarten playground and whilst the wet weather over the holidays was not ideal, a very exciting learning and playing space is beginning to take shape. We are hoping that this will be finished by mid May.
ANZAC Day
Last week each student in our school had the opportunity to make a poppy and classes talked about the significance of ANZAC Day. The poppies were then attached to a large wreath which two of our student leaders, Luca and Eamon, then placed on the Huonville Cenotaph as part of the ANZAC Day service on Sunday 25th April. We had a good group of students who attended the service and represented our school. Thank you to those families who came for helping your children attend.
The Grade 2/3 and 5/6 classes then visited the Glen Huon Cenotaph in Glen Huon Park where handmade wreaths were placed and a simple service was held.
Ride to School Day – Date Correction
A letter went home last Friday advertising Ride to School Day. Please note that the date on this letter should have said Thursday April 29th (NOT March). In previous years this day has involved riding from Glen Huon Park, however due to logistical issues we will instead be creating a ‘track’ within the school which can be accessed from 8:30am. We will not be riding on the road. Please ensure that your child brings their helmet if they are bringing their bike or scooter as they will not be allowed to ride if they do not have a helmet.
Relief Cleaning Staff
At times we find ourselves in need of relief cleaning and grounds staff and whilst we have a few very good people we can call on, they are not always available and so we need to look further afield. If you are interested in being added to the relief register AND have your Working With Vulnerable People card, please contact Lyn Bender in the office and we will explain how to get your details added to the relief register.
School Association
Our next School Association meeting will take place on Wednesday 5th May at 6pm in the staffroom. Any parents are welcome to attend the meeting. As part of this meeting we are beginning to discuss how we would like to proceed with plans and funding for new playground equipment. This may include grant applications, surveying students and families, sourcing quotes etc. If this is something you are interested in being a part of, why not come along?
