Grade 4, 5 and 6 had a special treat last Friday. We were able to teleconference with former NASA astronaut, Greg Chamitoff, as part of our ‘What’ll happen to the Wattle’ project. Greg spoke with us about the various missions he has performed in space, what it’s like on the International Space Station and the intense training involved in becoming an astronaut. We watched a video presentation Greg made of his space experiences. It was fun to see the astronauts moving in a micro-gravity environment and to learn of the current space projects happening right now. The Artemis Mission will be heading back to the moon soon! Some of our highlights were hearing that they call their zero gravity training module ‘The Vomit Comet’, learning that it takes two hours to change into their space suits, seeing their underwater training facility and watching them use T38 jets to train at high speeds. We are looking forward to many more teleconferences as we head deeper into our ‘Wattle Happen to the Wattle’ project. We have a Jet Propulsion engineer and a NASA flight director booked in for this term and we can’t wait!
