Singing Performers

A few weekends ago students from the Grade 2/3 class performed at the Franklin Folk Club supported by Miss Munro and our Song Room teacher, Isaac Gee. There were huge levels of excitement at being able to perform in front of a wider audience from both the students, their parents and also brothers and sisters who came along to watch. They did a remarkable job performing 3 songs which they did a very proud bow at the end.

Long Service Leave

Miss Munro will be taking the last 2 weeks of this Term as Long Service Leave beginning on Monday 13^th September. Mrs Naomie Clarke-Port will be teaching the 2/3 class during Miss Munro’s leave.

Miss Munson is also going be to taking Long Service Leave for the last week of Term 3 and the first two weeks of Term 4. Mrs Julie Creed will be teaching the 4/5 class in Miss Munson’s absence.

We wish Miss Munro and Miss Munson a happy and restful break and look forward to welcoming them both back in Term 4.

Artists of the Week

Miss Bron has been working with students in the 4/5 class creating some very interesting pieces of work. Some artworks focussed on shading and perspective. Students were only allowed to choose one colour and then had to add black and white to create various shades of their chosen colour. Perspective was then achieved by putting the darkest colour at the front, gradually getting lighter to the lightest colour at the back.

Some other artworks involved creating a pattern which in itself was an artwork and then cutting this artwork up to create a new artwork altogether but with very striking results!

A third group used egg cartons to create all kinds of interesting creatures.

Fire Drill

Last Wednesday we had a fire drill at school. I am very pleased to be able to say that everyone moved out onto the oval in a very calm and sensible manner and the officer who came was impressed with how quickly and smoothly it all went.

As we start to move into the warmer part of the year it is also a timely reminder to us all to have in place a Bushfire Plan. There are great resources available on the Tasmanian Fire Service website.

Home Reading Tree

Just like the trees are starting to sprout new leaves as we head into spring, our Home Reading Tree is also getting more and more leaves on it as we progress further into the year. It is wonderful to be able to recognise and celebrate the reading students are doing at home. Reading every night for just 10-15 minutes makes such a big difference to children’s reading ability, fluency and confidence... and who doesn’t like a good story!
