Hello and welcome back to another school year
What an absolute delight it is to be able to come back to such a lovely school. I have been completely overwhelmed by the friendly and enthusiastic welcome I received and I just feel so lucky to be the new Principal of such a wonderful learning community. We do of course continue to wish Mrs McKay a wonderful retirement and can’t wait to hear about all her adventures.
Welcoming New People To Our School
A huge welcome to all the new people in our school.
Welcome of course to our new Kindergarten students who are beginning their exciting learning journey in our school.
We have quite a number of other new students who have started the school year with us. It has been wonderful to meet you all and we look forward to getting to know you better and better as the year progresses.
We also have a few changes to our staffing which have come about for various reasons. Ms Van der Schans has won an exciting new position with Learning Services where she gets to focus on Mathematics every day of the week….something she has been dreaming about for a long time and which she has a HUGE passion for. As part of this role she will be working with selected schools to help them with their Mathematics teaching and learning. Glen Huon Primary School is lucky enough to be one of the selected schools and so we will still be seeing Ms Van der Schans in our school. This means that we have needed to fill the big gap left by Ms Van der Schans. Miss Webb is initially stepping in 2 ½ days a week. Miss Webb is also undertaking some study on the other 2 ½ days and so we welcome Miss Liz Armstrong into the school on the Grade 1/2 class.
We also have a new Teacher Aide, Selina Lovell, working in our school Wednesday to Friday.
Welcome to all these new people and I am sure everyone will introduce themselves to you and make you feel at home in no time.
Kinder
Our New Kinder building is officially in use and we have been enjoying this fantastic new space. Works on developing the playground will hopefully begin in the not too distant future and then we will begin to plan an official opening ceremony.
A reminder to all families that it is important to let the school know ON THE DAY if your child is absent from school and the reason for this absence.
This can be done by calling the school office on 62666240 or by emailing the school at Glen.Huon.Primary@education.tas.gov.au

Thank you so much for the inundation of forms. Excursion Consent and Aquatic Activity Forms are essential to assist the school in the safety of your child whilst on excursions or around water etc. These forms are taken with the teacher when their class is on an excursion.
Validation Forms are used to ensure your child's information is current (phone numbers, address etc). You will also have noticed there is a new Permission list. I do hope you find this list more user friendly.

Don't forget our first Parents and Friends meeting tomorrow (Wednesday) 17th February at 1.50pm in the Staffroom. We would love to see you there.
Our plan is to hold a monthly meeting which will alternate days and times to provide families with the opportunity to attend. However, we understand that life often gets in the way of these meetings so we have a Facebook Group “Glen Huon Primary P&F”
https://www.facebook.com/groups/837604833240697/
We will be posting all information from meetings as well as events that you can help out with. Please feel free to join the group and stay up to date with what we are doing.

The Breakfast Club is an important part of school life for our students at Glen Huon Primary School. It gives all students the chance to have something to eat and drink before they go to class which has been shown to greatly increase kids concentration, reduce disruption and keep kids happy!
We are looking for parents, carers and grandparents to support the Breakfast Club running this year.
How can you help?
Volunteer one hour a week, fortnight or even a month to join a group of volunteers to make breakfast for our students. Breakfast club runs from 8.30am till 9am Monday to Friday.
To register your interest please phone or message Laura Corbett on 0437177507 or please leave your details at the School Office and I will contact you.
The kids really appreciate your time in helping out!
