Student Leader’s Conference
I had the absolute pleasure of accompanying our school and house captains, Luca, Keira, Eamon and Scarlett to the Student Leader’s Conference last Wednesday. Beginning with a guest speaker who talked about the important things that make a good leader, students then moved into a series of workshops. The workshops focused on team building skills, leadership styles and event planning. It was a fantastic opportunity for our school and house captains to build connections with student leaders from all across southern Tasmania and they represented our school extremely well.
School Association
The School Association AGM was held on Wednesday 3rd March. Congratulations go to the following position holders:
Chairperson: Kobi Goodwin
Vice Chairperson: Meredith Wilson
Secretary: Megan Perkins
Treasurer: Laura Corbett
Thank you to Maureen Fromholtz who has retired from the committee and from the role of Treasurer after many, many years of service to our school. You have made a huge and incredibly valuable contribution to our school and we wish you all the very best for the future.
Thank you also Lyn Bender who has been attending meetings and providing beautifully presented school financial statements to the School Association for a great, great many years; in fact since the establishment of our Association in the early 1990s. As these financial reports are able to be delivered by the Principal, Lyn has decided to also step down from the School Association committee. Thank you Lyn, for your incredible service and dedication to our school.
Swimming Carnival
Whilst the wind gusted around our ears, nothing could dampen the spirits and enthusiasm of our students last Thursday when we held our annual Swimming Carnival. It was wonderful to see everyone having a go, encouraging each other and cheering for each other.
A particularly large thank you to Mr West for all the work which went into organising the carnival and also to all the staff which helped out with various roles on the day. Thank you to the families who came along to support us on the day and also a big thank you to the Parents and Friends for the delicious BBQ lunch.
The Huon and Channel Swimming Carnival will be held on Tuesday 16th March. More information about this will be sent home soon with students who have been successfully selected to compete.
Late Bus Jokes
The Late Bus Jokes have been continuing. When I filled in for Mrs McKay last year, as a farewell gift I received a pack of Knock Knock jokes an so students have been helping me to say some of these when it is time to get on the late bus.
The Parents and Friends Association will be holding the next meeting on Tuesday 16th March at 9:15am in the staffroom.
We will be discussing upcoming planned events and what our goals are. If you would like a copy of the agenda or wish to add anything to be discussed, please contact me via email lauracorbett@hotmail.com.au or via mobile 0437 177 507.
Thank you to all the parents who have supported the Parents & Friends Canteen this year, we greatly appreciate it. The canteen is fully self funding, manned by volunteers and any profits made from the canteen will be going towards the fundraising efforts for the new playground.
It is a lot of hard work for our volunteers and we have had a lot of problems with orders coming in late and without payments attached. This makes it difficult as we have to pre-order and pay for food prior to Thursday and to accommodate late orders we then run short.
To prevent this from happening, we are going to send order forms home on Monday with children and orders forms are to be returned on Tuesday with the correct money. It is too hard for volunteers to keep a track of who has not paid and these orders will not be accepted any more. We apologise for the inconvenience.
We understand how difficult it can be to have cash on you these days and we are currently looking into an online ordering and payment system as a priority, however we are all volunteers with other commitments to attend to so it will take time. Please know that this is something we want as much, if not more than you do!
Also, if your child is not at school on the day, we will not be doing credits. This is because we have ordered and paid for food prior to the day.
On behalf of the Parents and Friends Association and all our wonderful canteen volunteers, we want to thank you for your support and understanding.
Should you wish to talk about anything, please feel free to contact Laura Corbett or Katherine Dewhurst directly.

Welcome to Grade 4/5 for 2021 – The children have made an excellent start to the new school year.
Our class have been focusing on a Science Inquiry unit entitled Plants in Action.
Through inquiry sessions we have captured students’ interests and found out what they think they know and what they want to know about how living things, such as plants.
We have collected seed pods, planted seeds, watched time lapse videos of beans and sunflowers growing. We have made observations of seed growth, dissected flowers and have elicited students’ questions about plant parts, plant growth and the life cycle of flowering plants.
Below are some images of our investigations and some lovely artwork. The children are totally fascinated with this unit. We are now going to move on to look at friends and foes found in our garden.
Drama commences today after school for those children wishing to attend.
Please note finishing time for tonight is 6pm.
Thank you
