A reminder that this coming Monday 14th June is a Public Holiday and that Tuesday 15th June is Pirate Day.
Mid year Reports
Teachers are currently in the process of writing Mid-year reports. These will be sent home in the first week of Term 3, with Parent-Teacher meetings taking place in week 2 of Term 3 from July 26th - 30th. Booking sheets for Parent-Teacher meeting times will be coming home soon. We strongly encourage all families to come to Parent-Teacher meetings. These provide an important opportunity to discuss your child’s progress as well as how we can work together to support each other and the growth and wellbeing of each child in our school.
Songroom
At Glen Huon, the Song Room program has continued into 2021, and every class has had weekly music sessions with Song Room facilitator Isaac Gee.
Unlike most music programs, Song Room partners with teachers, giving them tools to bring music into the classroom and incorporate it into student’s everyday lives in the form of group singing, rhythm games, brain break activities, and song writing.
This year, the Grade 2/3's have learned to sing and perform some beautiful folk songs, led by Mrs Munro. The Grade 1/2's have been learning about percussion instruments. The Grade 5/6's have been working out some difficult rhythms, as well as investigating emotion in music and how it can be used to persuade. The Grade 4/5’s have written their very own song about the life cycle of the plant. And the Kinder and Prep classes have danced, sung, and played instruments beautifully.
It has been great to see Glen Huon Primary’s creative spirit shine through and embrace music as part of the school’s culture.
Don’t forget to put our Songroom Assembly into your calendars for 2:00pm Tuesday 29 June.
The countdown is on for the School Disco and information sheets went home with the students last week.
RSVP's are due back to the office by Friday 18th June. Please make sure that they are filled out with your child/ren's name, dietary requirements and $5 per child.

This year, our Glen Huon Environmental Officers, Ashlegh and Olive, wrote a letter to Huonville Mitre 10 asking if Mitre 10 could help them make our school more beautiful by donating some plants and gardening gloves. Ashlegh and Olive were thrilled to receive a positive reply. The girls went down to Mitre 10, chose some plants and planted them opposite the Year 4/5/6 classrooms. Our school is definitely more beautiful with these new plants. Thank you Mitre 10.

Next Tuesday 15th June will be Pirate Day!!!
Dress in ye pirate best and make sure ye bring yer gold.
Be prepared to have some fun or else ye can walk the plank.
A big thankyou to Margaret and Peter Dunn for the donation of a worm farm to our school.
We have given it a lovely spot in our garden and look forward to lots of worm wee in the future.
In our Early Years classrooms we intentionally create opportunities to support children’s oral language development. We use the children’s drawings as an opportunity for them to talk about their ideas. We then support children to write their ideas, or if they aren’t ready we scribe for them.
