Terrapin Puppet Show
Today we were lucky enough to have Terrapin Puppets come to visit us and present their play ‘Scaredy Cat’. This performance was initially booked for last year but had to be postponed due to COVID. The entire school from Kindergarten to Grade 6 came together to watch the play and thoroughly enjoyed the antics of Scaredy Cat, his friends the chair, cabinet and tape player as they schemed to get rid of the cheeky mice.
Quotes from the performance:
“I learnt that you can tell a story without using words”. (Pippa in 2/3)
“ I liked the farting and burping sounds, giggle, giggle”. (Esther in 1/2)
"I cried tears of happiness". – (Isabella in Prep)
School Tree Day
Friday July 30 was School Tree Day. The Forest Education Foundation partnered with Sustainable Timber Tasmania to help support Tasmanian schools to participate in this event and Glen Huon Primary School was provided with 100 free native plants. These have been planted around our school with classes teaming up with their buddy class. Whilst the plants are only quite small, we look forward to watching them grow and in some cases encouraging bird and insect life into our school gardens.
Sharing Assembly
A reminder that our first sharing assembly for the term is coming up on Monday 9th August at 2:00pm. Please contact the office if you are wishing to attend so that we can ensure we have enough spaced seating set up. Please also ensure that you sign in at the office and use the Check in Tas App upon arrival.
Huon FM
This coming Monday 9th August, 2 of our Grade 6 students will again be visiting Huon FM to provide a report on some of the great things which have been happening in our school. Tune in to 95.3 Huon FM from 12:00 to listen to our students, or alternatively listen to the podcast afterwards by going to https://huonfm.com/about/podcasts/
Grade 5/6 Band
Every Friday several Grade 5/6 students undertake band practice with Ms Emma Cooper. A few weeks ago she spoke to me very excitedly about the amazing progress they were making and the skill they were showing. I just happened to be walking past the Hall last Friday when the clarinet group were having their lesson and I must whole heartedly agree…they sounded GREAT! I hope to listen to the other instruments this week.
We have the Grade 6 concert band coming to visit our school for a concert on Friday 13th August and then the students who have been undertaking lessons with Ms Cooper will have the opportunity to participate in a 2 day workshop the following week in South Hobart.
As we are now into Term 3, we remind parents that levy invoices were sent home at the beginning of the school year. Please pay any outstanding levies as soon as possible. If you are unable to make full payment, the instalment plan option is a good way to reduce your debt without making too much of an impact on your budget.
Kinder $165
Prep to Year 6 - $180.
Thank you.
We have had a wonderful first two weeks of Term 3 in Smarties, snipping herbs for a lovely sensory experience, building shelters in the bush playground, and making an obstacle course in the hall!
This week, on Wednesday we will be mixing colours on the light table, doing some giant floor puzzles and playing with all the wonderful toys. If it's clear weather we can get the bikes out!
On Thursday in the bush we will be cooking mini pizzas on the campfire (dairy and gluten free options provided), experimenting with pulleys and ropes, and constructing with sticks and tarps.
On Friday we will be singing and dancing in the hall, playing with the beanbags and the stompers, and then moving up to Kinder at 10am for morning tea, crafts and free play.
This Saturday is our monthly weekend bush playgroup, we will roast potatoes on the campfire, dig, climb, build, and explore the bush playground together!
We hope to see you there!

This special fundraising day has been organised by some of our Grade 2/3 students.
Indika, Quilla, Pippa, Emma and Tiarna have been studying sloths as an endangered species and would like your help to make a difference to these quirky animals.
Please bring TWO gold coins to school on Thursday 12th August.
One of these coins will mean you can wear FREE DRESS! The other will allow you to guess the number of jelly beans in a jar and have a chance at winning the lot!
There will also be a documentary showing in the hall at recess and lunch for anyone who would like to know more about sloths.
Thank you in advance for your support.
