Dear Families
With only one week of Term 1 remaining, I would like to thank everyone for their support and efforts through what has certainly been a challenging Term.
A reminder that this coming Thursday 14 April is a Student Free Day. This will be first day of school holidays for students.
This day is set aside for state-wide Moderation. Staff will be working (digitally) with other staff from across Huon Valley to learn more about the new reporting scale, as well as working together to ensure we are all assessing learning to the same standards.
We thank you for your support in enabling this to occur.
The Term 2 COVID Safe Schools Plan has now been released by the Department of Education. This plan is largely unchanged from the Term 1 plan as we all work together to keep everyone as safe as possible whilst trying to ensure that there is as little disruption to learning as possible.
This will continue to be reviewed and we will continue to inform families of any changes which come into place.
For more information please visit the Department of Education website through the link below

STUDENT REPRESENTATIVE COUNCIL - PYJAMA DAY
PYJAMA DAY IS TOMORROW!
On Friday 8th April the SRC invites you to come to school in Pyjamas.
This is a free fun event to support Nurse Emma who was going to teach us about sleep this week.
Unfortunately Nurse Emma was away today for her Sleep Information sessions, so she will have to take them next term, but we are all very much looking forward to wearing our Pyjamas to school all the same!
As it might be cold, please wear warm PJ’s.
Weekly Wondering - Creating Curious and Creative Thinkers
This week my wondering is about shells.
How can something which is so hard still grow without breaking?
Does your family have things they explore and wonder about?
Next term we would like to open up the Weekly Wondering section of our newsletter to families.
If your family would like to submit a 'Weekly Wondering' for our newsletter next term, please message us via the school Facebook Page or contact Mrs Lees.
Thank you to those parents who have returned Validation Forms etc. to the office, but there are still quite a few parents who haven't returned them.
These forms are required by the Education Department to ensure that all relevant information is up to date.
If you have mislaid your forms please contact the school office for more.
HUGE congratulations go to Brody, Chace and Finn on completing their Karate Grading last Sunday. Finn was successful in gaining his yellow belt, Chace was successful in gaining his orange belt and Brody was successful in gaining his brown belt. Starting on a white belt students move to the next colour ‘tips’ before then progressing to the full belt colour. It is wonderful to be able to recognise and celebrate this great achievement.
Brody’s journey and achievement over the past 5 years has been quite remarkable. With a lot of dedication and focus Brody has moved from white, to yellow, to orange, to green, to blue, to red and now on Sunday to brown! He now only has black tips to go before earning his black belt, the highest level you can achieve!
Easter Raffle tickets are due back Friday (tomorrow) and the winners will be drawn on Monday 11th April.
We are still accepting donations of easter eggs.
Thankyou everyone for the donations and selling tickets. GOOD LUCK!!

Over the past few weeks in PE our upper primary students have had a great time completing orienteering activities in their PE time.
They have developed the ability to follow and give instructions, as well as developing students ability to read a map, decide where checkpoints are and working as a team to achieve great results!
It has been fantastic to see our students get in and have a go at something which is quite complicated and the way they have been able to stick to the task and work together has been great to see!
Our younger grades are working really hard on developing their fundamental movement skills through a variety of games and activities! We are looking forward to our school Cross Country Carnival in early Term Two with all grades participating in this carnival.

The students at Glen Huon have recently learnt about sugary drinks and why water is the best drink to keep themselves hydrated throughout the day. They learnt that sweet drinks, such as cordial and sports drinks are high in sugar but have no other nutritional value and that these are best drunk sometimes, not every day, as they can fill children up and replace other more nutritious foods.
The students also learnt about these health benefits of water
- helps your skin be healthy.
- helps keep headaches away.
- helps your body’s digestive system – how it processes food and gets rid of waste when you go to the toilet.
- helps you have energy – being dehydrated can sap your energy and make you tired.
- helps you concentrate longer and do well at school and in sport.
During the lesson the students also learnt about how many teaspoons of added sugar are in sweet drinks
- Flavoured milk = 3 teaspoons added sugar
- 100% fruit juice = 5 teaspoons sugar (Natural sugar- better to have an actual piece of fruit and a glass of water)
- Blackcurrant cordial = 7 teaspoons added sugar
- Soft drink ( i.e. coke or lemonade)= 7 teaspoons added sugar
- Energy drink = 7 teaspoons added sugar

TUESDAY'S REHEARSAL ON THE 12th IS GOING AHEAD AS NORMAL.
The next rehearsal after this will be during the second week of school holidays, TUESDAY 26th 9am - 3pm, (for the whole day). There is no evening rehearsal during the holiday period.
Children will need to brink lunch, drink and a hat as for a usual school day. I can heat food as we do of an evening if required.
Don't forget scripts, display folders and a USB.
