Thank you to everyone for a very busy term. There have been many highlights including our Athletics Carnival, the Terrapin Theatre Company Performance and Book Week, just to name a few, and I am very much looking forward to the SRC’s CRAZY HAIR DAY TOMORROW which will raise funds for Brightside Animal Sanctuary.
Tania Steenholdt has this week been on Long Service Leave and Tina Munson will be on Long Service leave for the first two weeks of Term 4. Gen Dorian will also be taking Long Service Leave for Term 4. We wish all of them a lovely time catching up on the many things which get put on hold during the term.
I wish everyone a very safe and happy time over school holidays. I love this time of year as the days get longer and warmer enticing us outdoors. I look forward to hearing about everyone’s adventures when we return on Monday October 17.
Public Holiday and Student Free day
Please be aware that:
Thursday 20 October is the Show Day Public Holiday.
Friday 21 October is a Student Free Day
set by the Department for schools to undertake professional learning and begin planning for 2023.
STEAM (Science, Technology, Engineering, Art and Maths) Option
Students in Grades 4/5/6 who selected STEAM as their Wednesday afternoon Options Subject have this term been learning about how books are made. Ms Munson has challenged students in the group to incorporate knowledge of measurement, design and engineering to create note book covers which have hard covers yet open and close smoothly and have a some kind of clasp to keep them closed.
Here are the very proud creators, problem solvers, mathematicians, engineers and designers with their wonderful books
What an absolute delight it was to attend our Song Room Assembly this Tuesday. Classes shared items including original songs they had created, sea shanties and the 5/6 class performed our School Song which has been specially dedicated to Mrs Bender for her many, many years of service to our school.
Thank you to all the families who attended. I think this was the best attended assembly we have had in a long time and it was wonderful to be able to include you all in the celebration of this wonderful school program.
Of course, Song Room could not go ahead without the incredible Isaac Gee. Isaac, I cannot begin to tell you, Isaac, how often teachers and students comment on what a wonderful presence you have in our school. We very, very much appreciate what you do and thank you from to bottom of our hearts.
Congratulations to the students who participated in the Brixhibition Lego Challenge: Marni Wilcox, Reuben Brown, Quilla Moss, Isabelle Perkins, Renn Wilcox, Emily Perkins and Reuben Kowaluk.
The models presented were excellent, providing a huge challenge to the judges!
Winners
The overall winner is Renn Wilcox.
The K-2 winner is Emily Perkins.
The 3-6 winner is Quilla Moss.
Thank you for showing us just how creative you all are with Lego!
Gen Dorian
A reminder that Daylight Savings begins this Sunday 2 October.
Don’t forget to turn your clocks forward an hour.
Did you know some children may be eligible for FREE swimming lessons? Children from families who are on a health care card, are not already having swimming lessons and who are prepared to promote the Swim it Forward program are eligible.
Visit https://swimsafer.org.au/ and go to the Swim It Forward Application tab to apply.
Thank you to all our families for your support and understanding around yesterday morning’s school closure to ensure staff could attend union Stop Work Meetings.
As I am sure most of you would be aware, the Australian Education Union of Tasmania is currently campaigning heavily for increased supports in schools which would benefit our children and our staff immensely.
I appreciate that the late school start caused challenges for families and so it is with genuine thanks that I write this message.
The 2022 Tassie Mental Health Comedy Roadshow! Wednesday October 5th
Doors 7pm & Show 7:30pm | FREE Entry booking required*
Featuring the state's funniest acts speaking their minds about mental health. Our last 4 years of the roadshow have been so much fun, with sold out shows and incredible performances. Our venues adhere to all current COVID-19 restrictions, capacity is capped, and to maintain social distancing we'll be asking parties of ticket buyers to group themselves together. Entry is free, but we do ask that you pay what you like at the end of the show to help out all who have donated their words, thoughts, skills, and time. As our capacity is strictly capped, we ask that you only get a ticket if you can absolutely make it. If you later realise that you cannot come on the night, please cancel your ticket as soon as you can so that someone else might be able to enjoy the show.
