Public sector unions including AEU, CPSU and UWU have advised of state-wide stop work action on Wednesday 9th November 2022.
In particular, the AEU has advised that the Stop Work Action will commence at 12.30pm on that day, meaning that schools may be closed for educational instruction from this time.
As yet, schools do not have any further specific information to share with families, however I understand that this is potentially challenging for families and therefore wish to give you as much notice as possible. I apologise for any inconvenience this may cause and thank you for your support.
Survey for Families: Out-of-Area Enrolments
The Department for Education, Children and Young People is reviewing the procedure for out-of-area enrolments at Tasmanian Government schools.
We are interested to learn more about your perspectives on the benefits of attending your local government school, and the reasons families seek enrolment at a school outside their local intake area. You are invited to have your say using an online survey at https://forms.office.com/r/CX6hgsUvcX.
Breakfast Club Crumpet Spectacular
A BIG thank you to the Huon Me Crumpet Co who came to Breakfast Club on Monday morning and spoilt us with free delicious crumpets. These were an absolute treat and very much enjoyed. Thank you also to Laura Corbett our Breakfast Club coordinator extraordinaire for organising this for our school.
For any parents/guardians looking for a lovely way to contribute to our school community and connect with other families, volunteering for Breakfast Club or Canteen is a great way to do this. This might be once a week, or just once a term. Just pop into the office and let us know if you would become a part of the team.
Our next Sharing Assembly is coming up on Monday 7 November at 2:00pm.
Families are warmly invited to come along and join in our celebration of learning.
Grade Two/Three Readers Theatre
Grade Two/Three have been reading plays to help us improve our reading skills.
It is a great way of learning new and challenging words. It also helps us to read out loud with expression and confidence. We follow along with everyone’s part so we can prompt one another if we lose our place.
There have been some cracking stories performed so far such as The Three Billy Goats Gruff and The Little Red Hen. Classics! So much fun!!!
Here is one group reading and acting out a play entitled ‘All Through The Year’. It was a great story and even had a part for a talking mirror.
Tomorrow (Friday 4th Nov) we have a free Early Childhood First Aid session, from 9 am -1am in the Kinder room.
This session will cover child CPR, defibrillator use, burns, sprains, breaks, head injuries, allergies and anaphylaxis, fever and febrile convulsions and provide an opportunity to ask all your first aid questions.
Children are welcome, Mrs Carson and I will provide activities and supervise them, but it’s also fine if they sit on your lap during the session, it’s very informal. Bookings not required.
Wednesday 9th November
Music and Rhythm
A session for dancing about and making music, we’ll even get some real musical instruments out and have a go at playing music together!
We’ll practice drumming, and make some shakers to take home.
Developing rhythm and listening skills is an important part of learning to speak and later to read. We’ll make our own maracas, felt shakers and sensory bottles to play with!
Upcoming event:
On Wednesday 7th December we have an excursion to the Marine Discovery Centre! A free bus will leave at 9:10am or you can drive your own car there if you prefer. Please let Mrs Black know at LiL, or call the office on 62666240 to book your space.
St Johns First Aid Education for Students
If you walked through the school at lunch time on Monday, you could have been forgiven for thinking that something had gone terribly wrong in our school. Everywhere you looked you could see children with various body parts bandaged and immobilised. This is because we had a very special visit from St Johns Ambulance who gave each class a lesson in basic first aid….and judging by the big grins, I think it is safe to say that these lessons were very much enjoyed.
Next week there will be pizza on the menu for lunch orders. Please order through the Spriggy Schools app.
There are snack items that can be purchased on Thursdays. We accept cash only at the canteen.
Thank you for your continued support.

Yesterday we had the pleasure of enjoying a Performance called Bully No More. We watched 3 characters; Eric, Becksy and Ralph show us what bullying can look like and also gave us some great strategies and ideas for ways to do something about it.
When I asked students what they had learned I heard comments like:
“Always tell someone.”
“You can stand up for yourself.”
“Be an upstander not a bystander.”
A wonderful musical performed by the Glen Huon Drama Group will be presented here in the School Hall on the 14th, 15th and 16th December.
We hope you can make it and give this great bunch of kids a well earned appreciation for their continuous hard work throughout the year.
Photos are of children rehearsals. Unfortunately there are some absentees. Keep a look out for them in future newsletters.
Please direct any inquiries to me.
Thank you.
