Late Opening Wednesday 28-11-2018 Reminder
Dear Parents and/or Carers
Public Sector unions have called a stop work action on Wednesday 28 November 2018.
As a result of the number of teaching and non-teaching staff participating in this action there will not be enough teachers on duty at the school to ensure adequate supervision for students. Therefore the Minister for Education has decided that the school will not open until 10:30am.
The students who travel on Neville Bolton's bus will start their travels to school 2 hours later.
At Huonville High they will transfer onto the B Line Bus to travel out to Glen Huon. They will not continue on Neville's bus as previously advised. This is not the early morning run but a special run to accomodate the later starting time. Students will be picked up at bus stops along Glen Huon Rd if they are waiting.
As advised previously the Lonnavale and Judbury buses will run as normal however the school remains closed until 10.30
We have a group of girls who are working with a volunteer Laura to sell some snack food items from the canteen on Tuesdays. The food will be low cost from 50 cents to 2 dollars. This will be for the rest of the term.
We are very busy with lots of great activities occuring in and around our school. Today the Drama students are having a full day rehearsal for their performances in December, the girls are cooking up a storm in the canteen and the Grade 5-6's are busy in the garden.
At our morning assembly this morning we began to focus on the responsibilites of performers and audiences in preparation for our end of year presentation assembly. Work has begun on the final presentations and celebration of our Grade 5-6 leavers.
On Friday for lunch Leigh Oates from wayraparatte the Geeveston Child and Family Centre is thanking our school for being involved in the CFC forum earlier this month. He is providing a free BBQ for our students.
You are all invited to...
The Glen Huon Primary School Art Exhibition Fundraiser this
Friday, 30th November 2018, between 6.30pm - 8.30pm
in the school hall.
Every student has a work of art on display that will be available to purchase for $10.
We have a lucky door prize, live music, drinks and nibbles and an artist at work
whose masterpiece will be up for auction as a one off original.
Come along and bring friends and family for a great night out.
This week in Smarties we'll be learning all about monotremes - egg laying mammals! We are very special in Australia as we are home to the platypus and echidna, fascinating relics of the early evolution of reptiles into mammals.
Wednesday - due to the school closure there will be no Smarties this Wednesday, sorry.
Thursday - bush playgroup will be held on Saturday this week, no bush playgroup this Thursday.
Friday - on Friday we will be learning all about platypus, making a paper bag platypus to take home, and playing with the balloons and bubbles!
Saturday - in bush playgroup this week we'll be learning about echidnas and making some spiky little buddies out of clay. We'll splash, dig and climb, and have fun in nature while making new friends.
Hope to see you there, Jess Black and Annette Carson
This Saturday is the first weekend in December, so we'll be running our special Saturday playgroup from 9am -11am in the Glen Huon School bush playground. Come along and join us for lots of fun digging, splashing, searching for beetles and bugs, climbing, balancing and jumping.
Studies have shown that children who learn to manage safe risks at a young age are significantly less likely to take unsafe risks like drug taking and getting into cars with drunk drivers in adolescence. Bush Playgroup is an ideal space for children learning how to manage reasonable risk in a safe environment as they explore and have fun!
This is Grade Three/Four enjoying a lovely lunch in our classroom. We had spaghetti bolognaise and garlic bread. We had table cloths, napkins and flowers on the table to make it special. Special thankyou to Emma Gill and Kerry Hutchins for helping us to make it happen.
Miss van der Schans is looking for a cartoon story that would solve the following problem for Lola and Leo.
How do you think they should start?
Take on the challenge to solve your Maths through drawing.
On Friday 30th November bring your scooter along to school and Max, Reece and Jayden will organise some fun activities for scooters on the netball court. You must make sure your scooter is mechanically safe and you must wear a helmet. If you have other safety gear such as knee pads and elbow pads please bring them as well.
Max, Reece and Jayden.

This school fundraiser went ahead on Saturday despite the weather. I would like to thank the following people:
- all the people who booked a boot;
- Peter for stepping in to cook the BBQ;
- Bron and students for painting our fantastic signs;
- the family members who came for a browse to show their support; and
- Rob for all his hard work before the event, during and after the event.
We raised $200 on the day and the raffle for a trailer load of wood is on-going and will be drawn at the last assembly - so please show your support by buying a ticket for only $1 each, the trailer load of wood will be on display Friday 14th December. You will find tickets at reception.
While we were finishing up Rob and I chatted about a wish list and both agreed a more user friendly BBQ would be achievable with the funds raised.
