Congratulations to Lani and Iris who this week presented the school report at Huon FM.
Both Lani and Iris were excited to have the opportunity to visit a live radio studio and see how it all works. The soft padded acoustic wall linings are also always something which sparks students’ interest.

Hello Legends at Glen Huon Primary!
We just wanted to reach out with a huge personal thanks for your thought to fundraise for Project RECAP on your free dress day. We are so appreciative of the support and of having you on the team, the wildlife are too, they’re just not very good at saying so! It means so much to us to have your belief in the project, please pass our thanks on to the students!
Thanks so, so much again, we can’t wait to share the Project RECAP journey with you!
Warm regards,
Greg and Melissa
We have been so busy at Kindergarten for the past few weeks! We have been lucky to have extra helpers some days in Evie and Ethan. This has given the children more adults in the room to talk with, create with, paint with, cook with and play with. They also supported us for our recent excursion to the Museum, such a great opportunity for the children!
We have continued our inquiry around the broken tree in the park, this has culminated in the children sending a letter to the council telling them about their inquiry and asking them some questions.
- Will the tree doctors climb the tree with a firefighter ladder?
- Will the tree stay alive or not?
- Will you put a tree house with a ladder and slide in the tree if it survives?
- Did the tree catch on fire? Did the firefighters check it out when the storm passed?
- Will the tree get extra water to help it grow better again?
- Did the tree doctor try to fix it? Can they fix the top?
- Could the tree doctor visit us at school to tell us?
- If the tree won’t survive, what will happen to it? Will you grow a new one from the seeds? (we have some seeds, incidentally)
- Why is the tree red in the middle? Is that because of the lightning?
On Monday we are meeting Council representatives at the park who are coming along to answer our questions and tell us what they know about the tree. Very exciting!
On Tuesday December 5 we headed to the Museum with the 1/2 class. What a great day! I have never in my life seen children more excited about being at the museum! I heard “Tania!!! Look at this!!” approximately 500 times I estimate. We explored many galleries and when we had finished we headed over to the Christmas Tree in Mawson Place and on the way home we stopped at the Huonville Esplanade park for a quick play. We all slept well that night!
It has been an amazing year learning with these curious, engaged, kind, thoughtful articulate inquirers. I have loved every minute of it.

Grade 5/6 are getting excited for all the magic of Christmas (and the school holidays). Our challenge during numeracy lessons of late has been to stick to a given Christmas budget and meet certain criteria to pull off the best Christmas gathering ever. This has been an insightful activity into how expensive this time of year can be as they have had to purchase gifts for 5 people and prepare a meal for 10 that includes three main dishes with sides, two desserts and drinks. If there is any left over budget they are allowed to have bonus buys, which can be decorations or extra trimmings on their food dishes. One of our up-and-coming accountants has her spendings within 28 cents of her budget! That’s amazing! Another activity we have done is to create a Christmas wish list with wishes for something they need, something they want, something they’ll wear and something they’ll read. Their last wish was for someone else this Christmas. Take a look at some of their wishes and have a Merry Christmas everyone.
I wish my dear little sister gets really good at playing the violin and loves it.
I wish my mum could go on a trip all by herself so it’s peaceful.
I wish for my friends health to get better and my other friend to be happy.
I wish that my cousins in South Africa will have an amazing Christmas this year.
I wish all the homeless may be warm, all the sick to be healed, all the lonely to be accompanied, all the forgotten to be remembered and all the endangered to be rescued.
I wish mum and dad had more money for food and drink, rent and other things.
I wish my friends dad would be cured.
I wish for my mum and dad to enjoy their Christmas lunch.
I wish for my mum to find a better job.
I wish that all countries could be as safe and peaceful as ours.
I wish that everyone has time to relax and think about the true meaning of Christmas this year.
I wish everyone can have a smile and a laugh on Christmas day.
Grade 5/6
We had a team of 22 students who competed in the Triathlon this year. It was a fantastic opportunity for teams of students to complete in the combined swimming, riding and running event. Well done to everyone for showing courage and determination in having a go.
A HUGE thank you to Mr West, Miss Woolley, Katherine and Mr Witts for helping out students with organisation, transportation of bikes and supporting our team on the day.
This morning during our literacy block Grade 1/2 did some shared writing about our excursion earlier in the week. We hope you enjoy!
On Tuesday 5th December Grade 1/2 went on an excursion to TMAG with the Kinders. They had a special app. where we could search for creatures.
Some of our favourite things to look at were the Antarctic room with the piece of ice, the animals, the birds, the coins and medals and the Muttaburrasaurus .
After the museum we ate lunch and walked to see the gigantic Christmas tree at Mawson Place. We caught the bus to the Foreshore Park in Huonville for a quick play and got back to school just in time for early bus.
