This fortnight has been packed full of lots of learning experiences both in and outside of the classroom. These have included a science performance, creation of a Harmony Day display, competed in the Huon and Channel swimming carnival. A wonderfully colourful Easter hat parade organised by the SRC and the Easter break.
The hat parade was hugely successful with so many creative, colourful and Easter themes hats on display. It was lovely to see families stay to join in the parade. We look forward to many more events organised by the SRC during the year.
ANZAC day Thursday 25th April falls during the school holidays – our school captains will lay a wreath on behalf of the school (they will receive an invitation over the coming week). If your child would like to join us to represent the school at the service we ask that they come along in full school uniform and meet us at the PCYC in Huonville at 9.30am. We will then join the march to the Huonville cenotaph for the 10am service.
Over the past few weeks our Prep-6 teaching staff have been collating information against your child’s learning progress to share with families. This may be in the form of a written checklist that will come home next Friday, a conversation with your child’s teacher about your child’s learning plan, or a combination of both. If you have any questions, please contact your child’s teacher.
We have just over a week left for Term 1, so this will be our last full newsletter for the term. We wish you all a safe and enjoyable term break. Term 2 will resume on Monday 29th April, we look forward to an exciting term ahead.

- We have a collection of drink bottles and containers at the front office. If you think it's yours, please come and pick it up from the front office by the end of term. Items not collected by this date will be discarded.
- A reminder that the car park area is a shared zone. Please remember to drive slowly.
On Wednesday Mrs Black organised for Delta Dogs to visit our school.
Maria and Delta Ogie the Dalmatian came to talk to 1/2 about how to be safe around dogs and how to look and recognise how a dog is feeling by reading their body language. This was particularly useful in our class as Lachie and Ella both have brand new puppies.
During our literacy time the last few weeks we have been learning about the consonant digraphs sh, ch, th and wh following the Orton Gillingham (OG) approach.
I have been so proud and impressed by the way the children have progressed so far this term. Each day we start with handwriting to refine our letter formation, we practice reading a series of words that include only the phonemes we have already learnt.
We practice spelling words using our learned phonemes, we practice reading and spelling learned words (sometimes known as sight words) which have irregular spelling patterns, and we use dictation to write a sentence using phonemes and learned words we already know to help consolidate our learning.
This week we will learn about <a> making an /ar/ sound – like in the words bath, class and basket.

Please note headlice has been found in the school. A notice has been sent out in SchoolZine today with a letter on what to do if headlice are found.
On Wednesday 28 March 18 students from Glen Huon Primary travelled to the Huonville Pool to participate in the Huon and Channel Division C Swimming Carnival. It was a huge day for our students who participated, cheered on peers and even participated in more races then they were asked too and in higher grades! Some of the students who participated shared their highlights:
Quilla – Gr. 5 – I really liked the 50m races because they were lots of fun and a challenge
Alice – Gr. 5 – I liked how I got to share the experience with my friends from our school and also compete against other schools which was lots of fun.
Eddie – Gr. 6 – It was really challenging in the deep end for races which I enjoyed.
Vera – Gr. 3 – I really enjoyed the relay races because it was good to work in a team.
