Congratulations to the students who participated in the Huon and Channel Cross Country. They represented our school well and participated with great sportsmanship and fairness. Thank-you Mr West and Deanne Murtagh for supporting our team.
Well done to Lincoln Armstrong who received the Glen Huon Aussie of the Month in our Whole School Assembly yesterday.
A reminder that this upcoming weekend is a long weekend, Monday is the Queen's Birthday Holiday.
Feeling cold? There is a beautiful warm blanket being raffled from the front office so come and buy a ticket.
This month in Smarties our focus is Inquiry - wondering and asking questions, then following the answers to deeper understandings.
On Wednesday we will be mixing colours on the light table, creating and investigating patterns, engineering with wooden blocks and measuring and comparing found objects.
On Thursday we'll be exploring nature and talking about our "I wonder..." questions. We'll make prints with clay and see if we can build a better teepee.
On Friday we'll play with the beanbags and practice our balancing skills, then we'll read a story about wonder and make a book of questions together.
Marine Discovery Centre - on Wednesday 26th June we are going on an excursion to Dru Point and the Marine Discovery Centre, leaving school at 9:15am and returning around 1:30pm.
Please let Mrs Black or Mrs Carson know if you would like to join us - all families with children ages 0-5 are welcome!
Student Led Activities and Fitness
Part of our health and fitness program at Glen Huon Primary is what we call SLAF (Student Led Activities and Fitness). Our Prep class loves it when their Grade 6 leaders turn up at the door to take them for this valuable time. The leaders run the class in a prepared activity and show the students how to warm up and cool down before and after exercise. This is a great opportunity for older students to practise leadership skills. They are wonderful with the younger students and are always caring and attentive to their needs.
Last week we had SLAF in the bush playground. As our photos show, it was a great opportunity to get fit and enjoy interacting with one another.
The Kinder Preps had a fantastic day at waraparatee Family Centre at Geeveston along with other Kindergarten children from other local schools. There were many different activities that we were able to rotate through and spend time playing and exploring our different senses in, such as:, a mud kitchen, musical wall, fire pit, hut building, leaf piles, sand play and bark painting.
Our sense of smell was heightened by the barbeque which also satisfied our taste buds and hunger after our busy morning.
We were unlucky on the day not to see a platypus at the Heritage Park platypus walk. We were so quiet and looked very hard but to no avail. The day was followed by lunch and a play at Heritage Park before returning to school.
Thank you to the helpers who were able to make it on the day.
