The Huon network of schools are exploring the idea of participating in the Children's University operated through the University of Tasmania's Peter Underwood Centre. A member of the School Association, Emily our School Chaplain and myself will be attending an infomration session on Wednesday afternoon at Huonville Primary. This link provides you with further information in regards to this initiative.
Our last day of Term 2 was Pirate Day and what a day it was! The pirate ship Glen Huon constructed was a great ship. We raised $122.60 for Kids Cancer.
We had another successful School Photo Day, although a little hectic to start with being first day back at school.
Parents can still order online until Friday 26th July.
If you have lost your child's original photo envelope you can contact the school office to acquire a Shoot Key.

In Prep we have had the good fortune to have a literacy expert, Ms Heidi Van Rijswijk, come to our class to encourage us in our writing. We have enjoyed exploring how we can write words to make a sentence and learning some of the basic conventions of written language.
We have also started to bring together our knowledge of living things by thinking about how animals live in different habitats. Our challenge is to make a diorama that includes everything that our chosen animal would need to survive. We are very busy talking to our partner about what we should include and making sure we have everything so our animal will survive.
In Kinder/Prep we read the story Hurry Up Franklin by Paulette Bourgeois. Then Miss Bron directed us in drawing our own turtle using simple shapes. We love seeing our finished work when Miss Bron shows us how to go about our artwork!

We would like to invite all parents, grandparents and friends to our morning celebrations for Book Week.
This year’s theme is ‘Reading Is My Secret Power.’ The staff at Glen Huon decided it would be lots of fun to dress up as a character from the Harry Potter Series. I wonder if you can pick which characters each staff member is going to be? It’s sure to be a magical day at Hogwarts in Glen Huon.
Have fun creating a character from your child’s favourite book. You may choose a character from a book of your choice or you may like to join the staff with the Hogwarts theme. We can’t wait to see all the wonderful book characters appearing at school ready for the book parade.
Parade will commence at 9:15am
This day is for parents, relatives and friends of the community to dress up as well. Please come along for a morning of fun!
