Tuesday Morning Assemblies
These short asemblies focus on an area for growth and development and are usually tied to our values. Currently we are exploring the notion of Respect. The students have found it very easy to highlight the ways in which they show respect for each other. This is reaffirming and is very evident in day to day behaviours at Glen Huon. Respect for yourself seemed a bit more challenging to respond to. The thought processes were given a bit more time and some very considered and thoughtful responses were given. At today's assembly we put our respect goggles back on and have begun to think about respect for our environment. The very intitial responses have been to not litter and to pick up rubbish. The students have been encouraged to think beyond this and find other ways in which we can respect our environment. Discussions around ways in which we can respect our environment at home may help with broadening students ideas in realtion to this topic.
Swimming Carnival
It was certainly prudent to postpone our swimming carnival on Thursday. We have been able to re-book the Huonville pool for the 25th of March. We hope the weather will be kinder to us on that day.
So far this year in Physical Education we have had a very busy schedule. We have had a focus on Tennis with Coach Nick Martin running some extremely exciting sessions with all grades and we look forward to having some students represent our school in a tennis tournament later in the year. We have also had lots of fun playing games with the Early Childhood grades which focus on developing students’ fundamental movement skills and coordination.
After the success of last year’s Ride2School day Glen Huon Primary School will be running another Ride2School day this Thursday, March 12th at the Glen Huon Oval. We will be meeting Bicycle Network’s Shane at the Oval and he will be coordinating the ride to school as well as sessions of bicycle and road safety for all students so it would be fantastic to get as many people there as possible to ride, scoot or walk to school as one big group! Last year we had over 70 people involved in the morning so it would be great to see as many if not more of our students getting active on their way to school! Parents are more than welcome to ride or walk to school with us!
Unfortunately our Swimming Carnival did not go ahead due to poor weather, however we are looking forward to running the carnival later in March to ensure students are able to gain confidence and skills in the water so watch this space for details about that!
Important dates coming up this term:
Ride2School and Bicycle Safety Sessions – March 12
Huon & Channel Swimming Carnival – Monday March 16
School Swimming Carnival – Wednesday March 25 (TBC)
There will be a Parents & Friends meeting held at school in the Meeting Room at 9am on Monday 16th March.
Please come along to share ideas. If you are unable to attend but still want to get involved please join the Glen Huon Primary Parents & Friends Facebook group to be part of discussions.
Thank you
The canteen will be selling coffee and hot chocolate from 8.30am Tuesday to Friday.
$2.50 for cappuccino, latte, long black, flat white and hot chocolate. $2 if you BYO mug.
All money raised will go towards the Parents and Friends Association.
Easter Raffle books will be coming home soon. To make this a successful raffle we are asking for donations of Easter Eggs to be brought to the school office.
The more donations the bigger the raffle.
This week in Smarties, our letter focus is Cc, for car, cake, cow and cat!
On Wednesday we will be cooking yummy treats with coconut! We will be making very hungry caterpillars, cutting and colouring. We have a colourful sensory activity using our names, and a colour mixing light table area.
On Thursday we will be playing in the bush - making mud and roasting apples. We will try making a swing with ropes and see what happens!
On Friday we will be singing and dancing in the Hall. We will play with the balancing equipment and read a story about a little cloud - then we'll do a science experiment together, making colourful raining clouds.
You might want to bring along something to go in our Letter C box - maybe a crayon, a crystal or a candle...
We hope to see you there!
