Dear Families,
The Australian Education Union (AEU) has directed its members to participate in two hour stop work action on
Wednesday 28 September 2022 from 8.30am to 10.30am.
As a result it has been determined that all schools will be temporarily closed for educational instruction until after 10.30am on 28 September 2022. With a number of staff participating in the stop work action, the school will be unable to provide adequate duty of care for students and therefore we ask families to arrange to have students arrive at 10.30am. Please be assured that normal school arrangements will resume as the school reopens.
Please also note that bus operators will NOT be adjusting their timetables in response to the later school starting time.
We understand this will be an inconvenience for some families; it is regrettable that school closure action is necessary, however, we must be able to ensure adequate safety and supervision of students. If you have concerns that you are unable to reconcile regarding these arrangements please contact our office as soon as possible.
Yesterday we played tennis at the Cygnet Tennis Club. Alfie and I were really good together. Alfie and I beat a lot of people, I think about three teams. The teams were Barty, De Minaur and Goolagong. I was in team Goolagong with Finn, Alfie, Lillie, Alice and Alex.
Glen Huon eventually lost and didn't win any prizes but we were the best behaved school! Three teachers from different schools said Alfie and I were the super stars!!!

We have a special Song Room Assembly coming up on Tuesday 27th September at 2:00pm in the hall.
Families are invited to come along and hear the great songs and musical items which classes have been creating with Isaac.
Our Reading Bunting is looking full and colourful in the office hallway. I wonder if we will reach all the way along the hallway by the end of the year! Remember, if children bring their reading log back at the end of each month they get a flag to add to the bunting. We have also been fortunate enough to have a supply of fun items from the book fair to give to the first people to bring their September reading log back next Friday. Happy Reading
What is a Lullaby?
If your child is in the year 1/2 class they should be able to tell you. Maybe even sing one to help calm you or sing you to sleep. Students have been learning about lullabies, playing and singing lullabies and in the next few weeks are going to be composing their own lullabies. In the photos students are learning to set words to rhythms in preparation for their compositions.
Marimba Mania
Students in the Marimba Ensemble have started preparing for Marimba Mania. Marimba Mania is an annual combined schools’ concert held in Hobart. You can see more information from this clip The marimba mania taking over schools - YouTube. Learning music is hard work and gratification is delayed, but the effort is realised when students take part in this mass concert on the 11th of November.

What a wonderful experience our Athletics Carnival was last Thursday!
I know that I am not alone in wishing to thank everyone involved in supporting the day.
In particular, a huge thanks to Mr West and Mr Ryan who organised the running of the day and of course an extra special thank you to the Rosny College students and Riisa our visiting Japanese Language Assistant from the Japan Foundation. The inclusion of the Japanese Novelty events was something truly unique and added such a fantastic element to the carnival.
Congratulations to everyone for their fantastic participation, their encouragement of others and their willingness to do their best.
Congratulations also to Tahune who won the carnival with 373 points. Mannena came 2nd with 350 points.
Our Grade 2/3 class yesterday travelled to Cygnet Tennis Club to participate in the Huon Tennis Tournament.
They had a fantastic day and came back full of excitement and enthusiasm.
What made us particularly proud was the outstanding behaviour and sportsmanship of our students. In fact it was so exemplary that we had staff from several other schools comment on what a great bunch of students we have…and we wholeheartedly agree!
Thank you to Mr West for organising our participation in this event and to Ms Munro, Deanne, Katherine and Meredith for going along to support our students.
