What an absolute delight it was to return to school and see our new play equipment installed.
It has of course been a big hit, with comments like, “This is the best thing ever!”
As many of you are aware, new play equipment is rather expensive, which is why this has been a long-term project for the Parents and Friends and the school.
The equipment (including installation) cost a little over $33,000 and has been funded by the Parents and Friends Fundraising efforts for quite a number of years, a contribution from the school and also a Helping Hands Grant from Huon Aquaculture.
A HUGE thank you to the Parents and Friends for undertaking this project. A HUGE thank you also to Huon Aquaculture for their contribution which covered the cost of the new bars. Finally, a HUGE thank you to everyone within our school community who has supported the fundraising efforts over the years.
The outcome has certainly been well worth it and will be enjoyed for many years to come.
Next week our special will be Spaghetti Bolognaise. We will still be running the regular menu. Please order via Spriggy Schools app.
Thank you for your support

As part of a very new Government building, there is a set allocation, based on the size and budget of the project, for a piece of artwork to be included in the building through the Tasmanian Government Art Site Scheme. Whilst our amazing new Kindergarten building was completed at the beginning of 2021, getting the artwork has taken a little longer. Over the school holidays this artwork was installed, and it is absolutely magnificent! Tasmanian artist, Tamzen Brewster, won the tender process and has created some incredible images depicting native flora and fauna, which add a link to the beautiful natural environment our school is set in.
Our Final Assembly has been set for Monday 19 December.
It will take place in the Huonville Primary School Hall from 12:30 - 2:00pm.
As in previous years, we will be providing 2 tickets to each family with priority of any spare tickets going to our Grade 6 families, as a large part of the Assembly is to farewell our Grade 6 students as they move on to High School. More information will of course be shared as we get closer to the date, however we wanted to give families plenty of notice of the time and date.
We were delighted to discover a Blue Tongue Lizard in the playground at recess today. It appeared to be heading to the Seedlings playground in the Kindergarten to try and join in the fun there.
We safely helped it to the bush.
The morning rush to leave the house is often the most stressful part of the day for parents of school children. Making sure your kids are up, washed, dressed and have had a decent breakfast can be an uphill struggle, and if you’re trying to get to work yourself, it can be even more stressful.
At Glen Huon Primary School, we have something called The Breakfast Club. It runs from 8.30 - 9.00 am Monday to Friday and is staffed by volunteers from the Parents and Friends Association. We serve toast and milo to any student that would like something. Some days we have other things such as yoghurt, porridge, pikelets or grilled cheese on toast, depending on what donations we receive.
Our Breakfast Club at Glen Huon is largely funded by the school. We receive some donated bread from Banjos Bakery and also we get some items from Foodbank when we are able to get into the city.
We rely on volunteers to run this service and we are looking for help. If you would like to get involved, we are looking for parents to help in the canteen from 8.30 - 9am. Please message Laura on 0437 177 507 or join our P&F Facebook group https://www.facebook.com/groups/837604833240697/?ref=share
Thank you for your continued support.

Grade 5/6 are off to a good start to Term four with a virtual excursion lead by the Questacon team in Canberra. Together we explored some of the things humans need to consider to be prepared for survival in space. We learned about the next generation of space jobs and how engineers are busy at work designing new space suits for greater dexterity and manoeuvrability in space.
We were able to conduct two experiments that simulated how different systems of the body react in space. The first being an air pressure test where we filled a cup with water and sealed in the pressure with a paper plate then turned our cups over and let go of the plate. Our photos show the results of this experiment.
Our second was a bone density experiment. This demonstrated the potential loss in bone density experienced by astronauts after periods of time in space, and how this can impact long-term bone strength. We noticed that our bones are a lot denser on earth meaning that gravity actually helps our bones to stay strong.
We all learned a lot and were amazed at all the considerations and planning that go into space travel.
