If you visited the Huon Show on the weekend, you may have seen the wonderful display of student work from Glen Huon Primary School.
A BIG thank you to Ms Munro and Miss Bron for giving up their time to set up this display…and what a delightful surprise to see that the display received a special award along with a $25 Spotlight gift voucher. Congratulations to all the students who had their work on display.
Huon Show Song Room Performance
Congratulations to members of our 4/5 class who performed at the Huon Show on Saturday.
They performed 3 songs, including one with Geeveston Primary School and one which was an original piece about the importance of water written during Song Room sessions by the class with the support of Isaac.
Parents need to be aware that there have been cases of headlice at school. If your child brings home a headlice information sheet this means there is evidence of headlice in your child's classroom.
Parents also need to be aware that there are a lot of children sharing or borrowing hats. Hats can be a great source of headlice investation.
Please check that your child/children have their own hat.
Thank you to the 2/3 class and Ms Munro for leading our Remembrance Day Service last Friday. Thank you also to Mrs Tollner for playing the bagpipes at the end of the ceremony.
Students in each class made poppies using paper plates and these were then attached to our school gate.
Student Wellbeing and Engagement Survey
The Student Wellbeing and Engagement Survey for Year 4, 5 and 6 students is a universal approach to supporting student wellbeing and has provided our school with wellbeing data to support our improvement planning around student wellbeing. We are planning to unpack this data with the students early next year and decide together on which areas of wellbeing to focus on in 2023.
Over the coming weeks we will highlight our school data for each area of the survey. Here is our data from the Participating domain. When our students are participating they feel empowered to share their views, to influence their learning and engage in their learning environment.

SRC Oval Run Fundraiser – Monday 28th November
The SRC are going to run laps of the oval to raise money for a storage box on the oval for sports equipment. Currently the sports equipment is in the shed on the courts and children have to go to the courts to get any equipment they want to play with on the oval. If there was a storage box on the oval, the equipment could be more accessible.
Children can sponsor an SRC member or Year 6 person to run laps of the oval at recess and lunch. Please bring some coins along on the day so your child can sponsor a runner.
On Friday 8th November our students were supported by our Music teacher, Sarah Tollner to participate in Marimba Mania.
During Wednesday's Grade 4/5/6 options program, the Marimba group have been practicing 10 songs and on Friday students from schools right across the greater Hobart district came together at Princess Street Wharf to perform these songs together for their families.
What an experience, and what an incredible sound to hear hundreds of marimbas playing together!
We have been talking about ancient man and all the things that were different / but yet similar to today's world. For example the children have made a long list of the things that ancient people didn’t have that we have now. But we have discovered that many jobs that our parents do today could be seen as similar to ancient mans jobs for survival.
We used materials that would have been available for ancient people to build a shelter, from our bush. Mud (clay), sticks, bark from the stringy bark, which we learnt about from Bron, leaves and grass were collected.
The last question I asked was “Did ancient people live alone or in a group of people?” This is leading to the question
“What is community?” But you never know where the children may take it with their thinking and wondering.

Huon Channel Athletics Carnival
Congratulations to our team of Grade 3-6 students who competed at the Huon Chanel Carnival last Friday.
Mrs Tucker and Ms Brearly were so extremely proud of everyone’s efforts and our school even received a special mention from the organisers for how well everyone behaved.
Thank you also to the families who came to support our students.
