It was such a privilege to be able to accompany our year 5/6 students on camp last week. What an absolutely terrific group of kids!
I would like to say a particularly large thank you to Mrs Tucker for her organisation of this camp and Mr Dransfield for being our volunteer dad. Without the two of you, the camp could not have gone ahead and we are very grateful.
Student Representative Council
14 students this year put themselves forward for nomination onto the Student Representative Council.
On Tuesday each student gave a short speech in front of the school explaining why they wished to be a Student Councillor and why they thought they would do a good job.
Each student demonstrated outstanding courage, respect, aspiration and growth as they stood and spoke to the school.
Whilst only 10 positions are available, each and every candidate can be very proud of their efforts.
Primary Progress Reports are coming home today for students in Years Prep-6.
These provide an indication of how your child has settled into the new school year.
Contained in the envelope with your child's report is also an outline of the schedule for Communicating Learning with Families for this year.
Please contact your child's teacher to make an appointment if you have any questions or concerns.
In case you missed the note which went home to families yesterday, we have been advised that the planned Stop Work Action for Friday, 10 March has been called off by the Australian Education Union (AEU).
This means that on Friday our normal school operations will be in place.
A reminder that our first Sharing Assembly is being held tomorrow Friday 10 March at 1:50pm in the hall.
Families are most welcome to attend
Families are invited to come and visit their child's classroom between 1:50 and 2:55pm on Friday 17 March for an Open Classroom afternoon.
We can't wait to show you all the great things that have been happening in our school.
Hello families
I am feeling very welcome here at GHP and am getting to know everybody.
As part of our school improvement plan this year, we are focussed on improving reading outcomes for students. We will be implementing a systematic approach to phonics across the school, aligned with the updated Australian Curriculum. Teachers will meet regularly for professional learning and to monitor student progress collaboratively.
You may notice a slight delay in your child/ren bringing readers home and this is due to us phasing in new decodable books. These books are sent home in a specific order, once a sequence of letters and sounds, or high frequency words, have been explicitly taught.
More information to come.

Thank you for your continued support!
Next week we will be sending home the Easter Raffle Books for students to buy and sell to their friends and families.
We will also be asking for any donations of Easter items to be brought into the office.
All money raised goes to the school.
We would like to say a big thank you to Katherine Dewhurst for getting a large donation of Easter goodies from Woolworths Huonville. Woolworths are a big sponsor of Glen Huon Primary School fundraising activities and for our Easter raffle they have donated over $300 worth of Easter Chocolates.
Our little school is very thankful for their ongoing support.
Previous raffles have helped us purchase the new play equipment outside of the Prep class and also the moveable play equipment in the Kinder playground.
Thank you for supporting the school in our fundraising.
Grade 5/6 were an absolute pleasure to be with on camp this year. We were grateful to have been joined by Rod Dransfield who introduced us to some fun games and was great company. Some of our highlights include going on the big dipper. This required a lot of bravery as we were hoisted up to the roof rafters on an indoor 6m swing then had to pull the rope to release the catch that held us there. There was a lot of breath holding and one terrified scream. Other highlights were the beach discovery and rock pool ramble, archery, team challenges, cooking damper over the campfire, indoor rock climbing, wheelchair basketball and the movie night. By far the most enjoyable part of our camp was turning up to the dining room to find all manner of glorious food. We ate 6 times a day!! Our dorm rooms were cosy and the games room and outdoor play equipment kept us busy. It was an especially fun challenge to see who could get to the bottom of the giant slides the fastest. We may or may not have used our sleeping bags to speed us up! In our spare time we walked to the park, played tag on the oval and got strategic with a game of Spies and Generals. Overall, we had a fantastic time. A big thank you to Rod, Mrs Lees and Mrs Tucker for accompanying the students and a huge thank you to the students for your excellent behaviour and positive attitude whilst we were away.
