Another wonderful week at Glen Huon Primary. This week I had the pleasure of putting up the campaign posters for the grade 5 and 6 students who have nominated for a position on the school representative council (SRC), it is pleasing to see that we have had many nominations. All the posters can be viewed on the glass doors of the hall. Below are a few examples of the effort put in by the students, well done. We look forward to hearing speeches tomorrow morning in preparation for grade 3-6 students and staff voting. We will announce the successful applicants in next week's newsletter.
Earlier in the term we advertised our Library Technician position as a contracted position until the end of the year – Congratulations to Leesa Blair as the successful applicant.
As the weather is changing from cold in the mornings to warm in the afternoons, we have had an increase in jumpers, beanies and other clothing joining our lost property box, there are also lots of drink bottles and lunch containers as well. If your child has returned home without their belongings, we might have them in the lost property box in the main foyer. You are more than welcome to come and have a look if you are dropping or picking up your child up from school, or they can come and have a look during the school day.
We will begin NAPLAN testing with our Grade 3 and 5 students next week. As a school we use the NAPLAN results along with other test results, Australian Curriculum ratings and classroom observations to support ongoing progress. If your child is in Grade 3 or 5 please encourage them to do their best when participating in the testing. Thank you for your ongoing support.
The School Association AGM and meeting will be held on Wednesday 13th starting at 6 - 8pm. The School Association Committee undertakes administrative and decision-making activities on behalf of the Association and for the benefit of the school. As a parent or carer of a child enrolled at Glen Huon Primary you are automatically a member of the association. We would love to see you on Wednesday evening.
If you're interested in the Cricket Program that starts on the 13th of March, we have registration forms that can be picked up the school office. The registration forms include the QR code. Or if you don't have access to a device that can scan the code, you're welcome to pick up a registration form to complete.
We have quite a few second-hand uniforms in the larger sizes. If you need any please come and see us at the school office.
There's been a few sighted in the area recently, so just a reminder that snakes can be a little more active around this time of year, particulary when the water is low and they are looking for a mate.
The following is some details from the Department of Natural Resources and Environment about what do, if you encounter a snake.
The students in Grade 4 / 5 are currently undertaking a gardening project outside our classroom.
Our aim is to beautify this area by weeding, composting and replanting the garden beds.
Step # 1 – weeding the garden beds.
Step # 2 – composting.
Step # 3 – planting.
We are looking for donations of plants / cuttings that we could propagate or ideas re suitable plants that we could plant in the beds. (please contact us if you have any donations or queries)
Keep your eyes open to see our progress over the next month.
Cheers Miss Munson and Grade 4 / 5 Green Thumbs
