Well, we have certainly had a very interesting start to Term 2 with some glorious sunny Autumn Days, but also the complete downpour we experienced on Friday.
Our Grade 3 and 5 students are this week undertaking NAPLAN testing and they are being absolute champions when it comes to their persistence and determination. As I have said to all of them, whilst we ask that they do their best, these tests only give us a very small snapshot of the amazing people that they are. There is so much more to what makes them special such as their artistic or sporting abilities, how caring and compassionate they are, whether they are creative or good at thinking about solutions to problems and so on.
Of course they are also all very much looking forward to the traditional ‘Post-NAPLAN pizzas’ which await them tomorrow once the testing has finished!
Thank you to everyone for continuing to be extra vigilant around not sending students to school if they are at all unwell.
This is so very imporant in helping to keep everyone safe and well.
A reminder that RAT tests continue to be available from the school office. As daily testing is now required for close contacts, we are giving out 5 tests at a time.
Please contact the school office if you require more tests and we will send them home with you child.
At the begining of Term 1 Validation, Major Excursion and ICT forms were sent home, and thank you to all the parents that returned them.
Alas there are still a few outstanding. The second wave of forms will be sent home to some families today so please check your children's bags to see if they have these forms.

The Newsletter is sent home with the eldest child in the family every week. An eNewsletter is available via your mobile phone and a link to the Newsletter is also posted on the school Facebook page.
Parents are able to access the eNewsletter on their phone by downloading the Schoolzine app 'SZapp' and follow the prompts.
The Prep/One class has been looking into the changes that we see with the seasons over the year. More recently we have been noticing the changes in the trees, hunting to find the fungi that has started popping up around the school grounds and noticing the changes in weather and daylight hours. We are starting to predict the changes that will come with winter! All of this has important maths, science and literacy embedded in it. Our class is a curious bunch who are observant and like to ask lots of questions and share their ideas about what is happening around them. Upon returning to school after the holidays, we straight away noticed the change of season evident in the trees around our school ground and took the opportunity to try our hands at colour mixing to represent the new colours our trees are wearing. The detail in their artwork is amazing – please enjoy!

The morning rush to leave the house is often the most stressful part of the day for parents of school children. Making sure your kids are up, washed, dressed and have had a decent breakfast can be an uphill struggle, and if you’re trying to get to work yourself, it can be even more stressful.
At Glen Huon Primary School, we have something called Breakfast Club. It runs from 8.30am Monday to Friday and is staffed by volunteers from the Parents and Friends Association. We serve toast and milo to any student that would like something. Some days we have other things such as yoghurt, porridge, pikelets or grilled cheese on toast, depending on what donations we receive.
Our Breakfast club at Glen Huon is largely funded by the school. We receive some donated bread from Banjos Bakery and also we get some items from Foodbank when we are able to get into the city.
If you would like to get involved, there are a number of things you can do:
- Volunteer to help serve. Send the Parents and Friends Association an email ghpsparentsfriends@outlook.com or call/message Laura on 0437177507
- Donate jams, honey, spreads. We go through 2-3 jars a week and are always looking for more.
- Donate breakfast items such as milk, cereal, flour, bread, eggs, baked beans.
- Sponsor us. If you know a business that would like to sponsor the Breakfast club, please contact Laura on 0437177507 so we can get the ball rolling.
Thank you for your continued support.
