The cold and wet has well and truly set in as we get closer to the winter months. When the weather is suitable, being able to run around outdoors at recess and lunch is really important for students, however this also means that shoes can get wet and muddy. If your child would like to bring along a pair of slippers or spare shoes to wear indoors this would be a great idea, as it helps keep feet warm and dry and also helps our carpets to survive the winter.
For younger students (and sometimes even older students), keeping a spare pair of pants, socks and undies in the bottom of school bags is also a great idea.
We have a small supply of spare clothes, however if you happen to have black pants which your children have outgrown and which are still in good condition, we would be very happy to receive donations of a few more pairs. These can be dropped off to Mrs Bender in the office.
Thank you.
Our Grade 3 and 5 students have now completed the NAPLAN testing for this year and as per the tradition, celebrated this with Post-NAPLAN-Pizza. Well done to all of you!
A reminder that tomorrow Friday 20th May is
Walk Safely to School Day.
Anyone wishing to walk to school from Glen Huon Park is asked to meet at the park by 8:30am.
Parents and carers are most welcome to join us for the walk.
This Friday we are on an excursion to a local farm, to meet lots of animals and play outdoors. We will be meeting at 37 Seventh Day Road, Glen Huon, we'll be there from 9-11, we hope you can join us!
As you probably are aware, the Glen Huon Playground is finally finished. Following all the community feedback and concerns about losing the beloved tyre swing the Huon Valley Council consulted with their playground equipment manufacturer who designed and built the ‘one of a kind’ piece of equipment for the Glen Huon Playground.
The Council is currently putting together a digital piece about the playground, the history and the consultation. This will appear on YouTube channel, Facebook and website.
Members of the Huon Valley Council will be at Glen Huon Park from 8am onwards tomorrow Friday 20 May in the hopes of getting some photos before it is time for us to walk to school. They will have permission letters for families who wish to be part of this.
National Simultaneous Storytime – Family Tree
Do you have a tree that is special to your family?
This year’s National Simultaneous Storytime book is called Family Tree written by Josh Pyke and illustrated by Ronojoy Ghosh. To celebrate National Simultaneous Storytime next Wednesday 25th May, we are asking children to bring one leaf to school from a tree that is in a special place dear to their family. It could be a tree in your garden, local park or even a tree at school. We will take a picture of your child and their leaf on Wednesday to display in our school office. To be respectful to the tree, please try to find a leaf that has already fallen to the ground.
On Wednesday the SRC will be presenting a special reading of this year’s book, Family Tree. Year 2-3 have also written book reviews for the book, which will be displayed in the Huonville Library.
National Simultaneous Storytime (NSS) is held annually by the Australian Library and Information Association (ALIA). Every year a picture book, written and illustrated by an Australian author and illustrator, is read simultaneously in libraries, schools, pre-schools, childcare centres, family homes, bookshops and many other places around the country. Now in its 22nd successful year, it is a colourful, vibrant, fun event that aims to promote the value of reading and literacy, using an Australian children's book that explores age-appropriate themes, and addresses key learning areas of the National Curriculum for Foundation to Year 6.

Hi everyone. We have been reading Dr Seuss books together as a whole class activity. This week we have read Fox in Socks and The Lorax.
Fox in Socks has wonderful tongue twisters in it. We took turns in reading and it was very funny trying to get our tongues around some of the words. There was a warning at the beginning of the book. It warned the reader that the book was dangerous.
Very dangerous indeed Mr Fox sir.
The Lorax had an environmental message for everyone. The Once-ler left us all with one word. That word was “Unless”. I wonder what he meant? If you read the book you might find out.
Happy Reading!

After spending the first part of this week nervously watching the weather forecast, we were today able to hold our Cross Country Carnival. Thank you to Mr West for organising this event and for all our helpers on the day. A BIG well done to everyone for giving their best effort and having a bit of fun along the way. Students who are eligible to attend the Huon-Channel carnival next Wednesday 25 May will be receiving a letter containing details of this upcoming event.
For our Grade 6 students this was their final school Cross Country event for Primary School and they were very excited!
