Every year the Department of Education conducts School Satisfaction Surveys to find out what your child(ren)'s school does well and where it may improve.
We would be grateful if you completed our online survey about Glen Huon Primary School. Your feedback is very important to help us inform our school planning and decision-making.
The survey is open from Monday 29 August 2022 until Friday 23 September 2022 and should take about 5 minutes to complete.
Take the online survey by clicking this link or pasting it in your browser: https://ncv.microsoft.com/mYcxpHJgBs
The survey is carried out on a secure website and all responses are anonymous and confidential.
All families in this school received the same survey link and no identifying information is collected. A summary of the survey results will be provided to schools. Responses from individuals or small groups will NOT be disclosed to any Department of Education staff.
Please contact the school if you require any assistance.
Thank you for taking the time to fill in this survey.
Next week’s special will be hot chips done in the air fryer.
The canteen also has snacks for sale for recess and lunch.
We accept cash only over the counter.
Students were visited by Riisa-sensei last Thursday to learn about the Obon Festival and Soran Bushi dance. At the same time students were able to demonstrate their Japanese abilities by reading books in Japanese to Riisa and each other, and by introducing themselves and their friends. Students also learnt the difference between kimono and yukata, including how and when we wear these traditional clothes. There were lots of smiling faces and we look forward to having Riisa-sensei at school over the next few Thursdays.

In our inquiry of our Body and Senses - a statement was made by the children
“If we can’t smell then we can’t breathe!”
Hmm, how might we test and prove or disprove this idea.
I brought in some lemons squished in a bag and let the children smell them. Then they were asked if they could breathe through their mouth. “Yes!” “Can you smell when breathing through your mouth?”
“Yes!” So even breathing through their mouth they thought that they still had to be able to smell to breathe.
The children were given a straw each and as I blocked their nose, they breathed in through their mouth with the straw sealed in the bag of lemons. “Can you smell the lemons when you breathe in?” “No!” “Can you breathe?” “Yes!” So the statement of “If you can’t smell you can’t breathe was disproved".
We have also been working on our Gross Motor skills. The children have been working in pairs and taking it in turns to choose an activity for all the class to do as we go to play at recess and lunch. They have taken it quite seriously and have worked together, (with Mrs Carson) to provide an opportunity to practise these skills. It could be an activity such as hopping, skipping, throwing and catching balls, or walking on the balance beam or stilts as a few examples of what the children have already chosen.
We are beginning to explore families, and communities.
You are all welcome to come and see our wall showing our thinking and ideas about our inquiry, thinking and learning.

Our Book Week Dress-Up Day and Parade is coming up this Monday 5 September at 9:00am
We can’t wait to see what characters everyone comes dressed up as…and don’t forget to bring your book with you if you have it!
Families are welcome to attend. So that we can ensure appropriate, physically distanced seating, please contact the school office by Friday 2nd September if you are wishing to come.
Our Athletics Carnival is fast approaching on Thursday 15 September. This will be held at Glen Huon Oval.
This year Mr West and Mr Ryan have come up with the wonderful idea of incorporating a little of students’ Japanese studies into the carnival by making our novelty events similar to those run at Japanese primary schools (Shougakkou).
A program of the day is below for any families wishing to attend.
As always, it would be fantastic to have some additional help on the day with marshalling. If you are available to help, please let the office know. Thank you.
This term in Seedlings we are starting to explore the animal kingdoms, starting this week with minibeast - insects, snails and other invertebrates.
On Friday there will be a Terrapin Puppet performance in the hall from 9:30 that you're welcome to attend, and we will have the Kinder room open from 9am with activities and play spaces ready for all families.
Next week we will learn about amphibians, we will have some frogs eggs or tadpoles to look at and make apple frogs to eat!
We delayed our Book Week Dress-Up day this year to coincide with the opening of our Book Fair.
This week your child has had the opportunity to have a look at the books available for sale and create a ‘wish list’.
Sales will begin on Monday 5 September directly after the Dress-Up Day Parade and then again every morning next week from 8:30-9:00am.
Both card and cash payments are available, however if paying by card we ask that you bring correct change if possible.
