A little further down in our newsletter this week you will see an article celebrating our student achievements at the Huonville Show last weekend. Thank you to Mrs Van Klink and Miss Munro for taking our artworks over and helping to set them up.
For anyone who missed out on seeing our display of artwork, they are currently on display in our front foyer and are well worth coming in to have a look at.
Thank you also to everyone who supported the Student Council Free-Dress Fundraiser day to raise funds for Bonorong Wildlife Sanctuary. $112.60 was raised which will help with their efforts to build a large new hospital, rescue and rehabilitation facility.

It was very exciting to hear that late last week Damien had his End-of-Treatment scans and is officially CANCER FREE!
It has been an incredible 18 month journey for Damien and his family and being able to ring the special bell at the Melbourne Children’s Hospital signifying the end of his treatment has brought everyone great joy (and quite a few tears).
Whilst Damien and his family have moved out of the Huon, we will keep in touch and wish them all the very best for their exciting future.
In the last few weeks, the children were presented with a Science.Technology.Engineering.Art.Maths challenge to create an adventure playground that catered for all ages and was inclusive.
The class brainstormed the types of playground equipment/ experiences that the park could include. The students formed groups, they were provided with a box and a variety of construction materials. They sketched designs and then began the construction process. There was lots of measuring, counting, estimating and problem solving going on. The children were totally engaged and enjoyed the process.
Here are a few images of our playground.

Some of the beautiful artworks created by students in many of the schools in the area, were displayed in Saturday's Huon Show in the show's School Exhibition Hall. It was a pleasure to exhibit artwork produced by our Glen Huon students.
We are delighted to announce that Glen Huon School was awarded first place. As a result, our school won $200 which is to be used in our garden area.
I would like to congratulate all students for their meticulous and ongoing effort during art lessons. Their enthusiasm and application is commendable and it is a pleasure to teach such creative students. I would especially like to congratulate Kyrie (Year 2), whose artwork was nominated in second place and Eleanor (Year 5), whose artwork was awarded 'Highly Commended'.

I recently visited the Prep class to do some maths tasks where we were focussing on different ways to make 10.
In pairs we collected a shell and 10 counters.
Then we took it in turns with a partner to hide some of the counters under the shell while the other person had their eyes covered.
Our partner then got to uncover their eyes and used their knowledge of pairs of numbers that make 10 to work out how many had been hidden.
Finally we had a go at recoding what we had been practicing on paper.
There was some really great mathematical thinking going on.
